Enid Arts Council is proud to announce its 2026 award winner, Tary Davis-Johnson.
The Renaissance Award is Enid Arts Council's most meaningful and distinguished honor. It is bestowed upon those who have gone far beyond expected roles and who have exceptional commitment to and involvement in the Arts & Humanities. It celebrates individuals, organizations, and educators.
To be considered a recipient, one must demonstrate deep involvement in the arts and humanities, leadership in the major initiatives for the arts, generous volunteerism and a sustained commitment to and a passion for increasing funding and resources for, and public awareness of, the arts and humanities in our community.
Unlike traditional annual honors, this distinction is not given on a schedule—it is earned, and bestowed only when merit and demonstrated impact truly warrant the recognition.
Tary’s love of the art forms came from her mother. Anytime there was a museum to tour or a live form of entertainment, such as the symphony or a Broadway play, they were going! In the Enid community itself, Tary began her involvement in the arts by being in the very first Gaslight Theatre musical, Tom Sawyer. As an adult, she’s performed in nineteen theatre musicals, has been on the Chautauqua board multiple times, has sung with Enid Symphony Orchestra, has performed for countless functions in a group called “Mixed Company” and has sung in fundraisers for The Cherokee Strip Heritage Museum and for Enid Arts Council.
Tary has been a member of the Enid Arts Council for forty-five years. She has been an officer numerous times, but her main role throughout the years has always been the responsibility of organizing, and significantly assisting with, the fundraisers. She is very passionate about what EAC does in her community and continues to support this 100% volunteer organization which helps bring quality of life to the Enid community.
She was so humbled and proud to receive the Renaissance Award for 2026.
