This September, join a global effort to promote the power
of reading, build community, and break the cycle of
childhood illiteracy.
Make room to read for children around the world by
making room to read in your own life.
1.Pledge to read. Set a goal to read for a
certain number of minutes – on your own,
as a class, or with a group.
2.Track and share your progress. For every
minute you read, invite others to support
you by making an equivalent donation to
promote education worldwide.
3.Raise funds for literacy. Every $1 donated
can provide a brand-new book for a child in
a community facing deep educational,
gender and economic inequities.

= US$1 raised
= 1 new book for a child

Room to Read is proud to be a grantee of the Strengthening Teacher Effectiveness & Practice with AI (STEP-AI) program. Launched this week by Renaissance Philanthropy, in partnership with the Gates Foundation, STEP-AI explores how AI-enabled tools can deliver scalable, high-quality coaching for teachers in Sub-Saharan Africa. The initiative strengthens the support teachers receive, bringing greater precision and consistency to instructional coaching in the classroom.

On February 19, Room to Read marked an extraordinary milestone by signing an official agreement with the Ministry of Education of Zambia. We first began working in Zambia in 2008 and for nearly a decade, we:
Benefited over 530,000 children with foundational learning skills

Supported 613 schools

Established 487 school libraries

Published 20 locally written and illustrated children’s books in Zambian languages

Distributed more than 1 million learning materials
