Encinitas4Equality’s Equity in Education group is excited to announce our Summer Education Series facilitated by Dhalia Balmir of Balmir Inclusive. Dhalia is a warm, gifted facilitator with a wealth of knowledge, experience, and expertise. Each workshop and circle group she has created is an opportunity for learning and dialogue aimed at parents, educators, and community members who are just beginning the work of exploring themes of race and racism. If you are interested in an introduction to identity, implicit bias, microagression and other uncomfortable but essential topics, we invite you to join one or even all of our events. If you are already well versed in these topics or well on your journey of learning, consider sharing with friends, family, and colleagues you feel may benefit.

Both formats are in-person and will include interaction and dialogue. The workshops will include more instruction while the circle groups will consist primarily of discussion. Spots are limited to allow for a maximum of engagement.

Amanda is the founder of a non-profit organization called One Pen One Page, which runs a youth writing and leadership program. She currently working on a children’s book and after Wednesday, will be the youngest poet to read at a presidential inauguration. You will not want to miss this historic event!

As we look back at the events at the Capital last week, the absolutely obvious display of White supremacy, we have the opportunity to recommit to who we want to be. Not just as Americans, but more importantly as humans. At E4E we strive to be humans who will loudly call out White Supremacy when see it, acknowledge within our own lives how our whiteness and a system built to keep White power in existence has benefited us, at the oppression of Black lives. And we need to constantly recommit to the work of being an anti-racist. Let us both claim our households ask being centered around love and equality, and our community being one that welcomes diversity. Yard signs are available for sale on our E4E website or you can message us directly for Venmo payment and pickup location.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. understood that racial justice was not attainable without economic justice—and that fight was about equity, dignity, and a brighter future for all of our children.

As we celebrate his birth on this day in 1929, it’s on us to carry out his work.
