We are excited to announce a new Humanitarian Wave ! We came to Puerto Rico with a goal to create and/or support a community project that would have the most impact in a community recovering from . After 3 days of being in Puerto Rico we were not able to find water anywhere. Thankfully we brought water purifiers with us and were able to find access to fresh water. We asked many what was the one thing they needed most, everyone’s #1 issue is lack of access to drinking water and water for other needs. So we decided to do something about it. We talked to community leaders of Barrio Hato of San Lorenzo and decided to pull together a team of 3 people led by Jose (an Army combat veteran) to create this water project. This project will bring drinkable water to hundreds of people in one of the largest communities in the town of San Lorenzo Puerto Rico (approx 7,200 people). This truck and the water cistern that holds 400 gallons of water, will be servicing hundreds of poeple in this community 5 days a week for months to come or until it’s needed. This is made possible by all of you and your donations. Humanitarian Wave team and people of Puerto Rico and especially the Barrio Hato community THANK YOU!
It will be a long road to recovery for the people of and we plan to support them along the way and we invite you to join in. Raise your hand ✋🏽 if u r in to help .

Puerto Rico experienced one of the most powerful storms to occur in recorded history. Hurricane Maria left the entire Island without power, communication, food, water and limited access to neighboring communities. Families are walking miles to check on loved ones. And loved ones outside the island are desperate to hear any news from family and friends who endured Hurricane Maria. Our team at Humanitarian Wave understands how difficult this has been because Puerto Rico is our home.

Our team will be on the ground in the coming days and will start working with local communities to identify the ongoing needs of effected individuals. We will support efforts on the ground and provide assistance as those effected start to recover, but we can’t do this without your help.

We are a volunteer-based organization and 100% of all donation for “PR Maria” will go directly to those in need in Puerto Rico.

Our scholarship program is an ever changing work of love and we have stepped up to our next phase of hope.
We decided to take a slightly different approach to our selection criteria for this year's scholarship participation. We learned that perhaps a stronger family support would offer an added chance of long term educational success. And we decided to support slightly older girls with a year of proven grades in high school and strong family support.

Please join us in congratulating Melani Antonio Pino and Gabriela Livier Perez Izazaga (Gaby).

Melani's family owns a small restaurant that a lot of you know in our village, Orbe's. She, her mom and dad, Orbe, and little brother, Junior, all work there. When not working and doing homework, she pays volleyball, helps her mom clean house and volunteers for a church program that helps young people stay off drugs. She is studying to be a Psychologist and maintains and 8.7 grade average.

Gaby's mom owns a taco restaurant and her father helps to run several of the houses on our beach. She is 15 years old and helps her mother both at home and in the restaurants. She loves to play soccer, and studies English and music. She does A LOT of homework because her grade average is 9.3. She is studying to be an Accountant.

These girls have very big dreams and we have chosen them because of their grades, poor economic situations and, different this year, exceptionally strong families. We ask for your continued donations to help these girls realize their dreams of education and independence. Remember, a girl can change the world. And, your donations are tax deductible in the USA.

Just go to www.humanitarianwave.org and when you donate make sure you designate the Friends of Sirena Scholarship Program.

Thank you for changing the world! One girl at a time!

Sophia Solis Garcia has been suported through our Friends of Sirena Scholarship Program since 2012 and will graduate in June 2014 maintaining an almost 9.0 grade average. Her goal is to get a degree in Marine Biology and we hope that with your help we can make that possible.

Gabriela Solis Garcia,(Sophia’s sister) also wants to be a marine biologist. She is in the top of her class with an almost 9.0 grade average. She is thriving in her 2nd year of high school, thanks to our generous scholarship supporters.

Guadalupe Gutierrez is now 16 years old and dreams of becoming a teacher and returning to her village to ensure the younger generations are educated in her community. She also has an 8.5 grade average and works very hard to make good grades.

With your help these girls can realize their dreams and change the world.

The cost for a year of school for a student is about $1800.00 USD. That includes uniforms, books, school lunches and bus transportation for the 10 month school year.

Please help them on the next step of their journey. Designate Friends of Sirena on your donation to Humanitarian Wave. It will go directly to the girl's education. In the USA your donations are tax deductible.
