Blue Star Families believes we're all stronger when we take care of one another. Founded by military spouses in 2009, we are a national nonprofit who has engaged tens of thousands of volunteers and serves more than 1.5 million military family members annually, including wounded and transitioning service members and their loved ones. We're committed to strengthening our military families by connecting them with their neighbors, organizations, and individuals to overcome the unique challenges of military life.

Military life can make mealtime feel like one more thing on an already full plate. Over the next five weeks, Wendy Jo Peterson, MS, RDN, retired military spouse, and author of Bowls for Dummies, will share simple, practical ways to build nutritious meals that work for real life.

We’re kicking things off with fridge-friendly veggies. 🥦 Learn how to shop for, store, and use produce that lasts longer, cuts down on food waste, and makes quick bowl-building easier.

When you’re still reporting for duty during a government shutdown, knowing your children have trusted care can mean one less worry.

That care was at risk for some Coast Guard families. Staff at Coast Guard Child Development Centers were going without pay, and some were struggling to afford getting to work. Without them, the centers could close.

Coast Guard Mutual Assistance reached out to Blue Star Families for help. We rallied support to help keep the centers open so children could continue their routines and parents could report for duty knowing they were cared for.

CGMA recently recognized this effort with its 2026 Values Award, accepted by Blue Star Families President Charles (Chuck) Plummer on behalf of our team.

Thank you to CGMA, Craig Newmark and everyone who contributed to making this assistance possible.

Every military family deserves a community they can count on—and when an urgent need arises, we’re here to help bring that community together. 💙
