May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚

Sometimes caring for our mental health looks like the simple things: stepping outside, slowing down, connecting with animals, working with our hands, and finding community.

At CDM, we’re reminded every day that healing doesn’t always happen in big moments. Sometimes it happens in the quiet—while feeding a horse, planting something new, sharing laughter, or taking a deep breath in nature.

This month, we encourage everyone to make space for whatever supports your well-being. Whether that’s rest, connection, movement, time outdoors, or asking for support when you need it.

It’s been a couple of weeks but next up in our horse series, meet Carter 🤎

Carter is the sweetest quarter horse you’ll ever meet and the youngest member of our herd. A crowd favorite, his playful spirit makes him instantly lovable to every person, animal, and horse around him.

With his kind, gentle, and loving soul, Carter brings so much joy to our farm, and our herd wouldn’t be complete without him. 🤗

Closing out National Volunteer Week with some love for our friends at Apple! 🍎✨

Every year—multiple times a year—Apple employees show up and put in work around the farm, and today was no different. We wrapped up this special week with an incredible group who truly showed up and showed out, bringing the best energy and all the curiosity you could ask for.

There’s no better way to end a week than being outside—laughing in community, connecting with nature, and spending time with some pretty cool animals and even cooler people.

Special shoutout to Joey and Ximena for helping make today possible, and an extra special shoutout to Zana—who is not only part of Apple, but also one of the Strong Sunflowers and one of our most dedicated volunteers. We couldn’t love you and your family more 💛🌻

Before the day is over, we want to give a special shoutout to some of our incredible individual and weekly volunteers 🤎

These are the folks who show up again and again—getting their hands dirty, doing the nitty gritty work that isn’t always glamorous, but is absolutely essential. Because of you, our space stays beautiful, our animals are cared for, and everything continues to thrive day in and day out.

To those pictured and the many who aren’t—like our amazing friends from Manor ISD who bring students out each week, Britney, Rachel, and so many others who carve time out of their busy schedules to be here—we see you, and we appreciate you more than we can say.

Next up, we’re celebrating the Texas Association of Counties 🤠🐝

Over the last few years, TAC has shown up in a big way—bringing out 30+ volunteers during each visit and jumping into whatever the day calls for. From helping us build our apiary and harvest honey, to clearing and mulching spaces around the property, painting our pig house, and showing so much love to all of our animals… y’all have truly done it all.

We’re incredibly grateful for the wide variety of donations and ongoing support you’ve given us over the years. This partnership means so much to us, and we’re excited to keep growing together for many more years to come 💛🌱

We’re so grateful to African American Youth Harvest Foundation for showing up for us this Earth Day and for being such an incredible partner over the years. It was an amazing morning filled with laughing, joking, connecting, and getting our hands dirty together.

The first group we would like to highlight during national volunteer week is Communities in Schools (CIS)! 🤗
We’re incredibly grateful for our partners at Communities In Schools—a community that has shown up for CDM in so many meaningful ways. From bringing friends and family out to volunteer, to coordinating student groups, to championing our mission in the spaces they serve—you’ve helped our work reach further than we could alone.

Last year, we had the honor of hosting the CIS AmeriCorps team as they kicked off their year of service—an experience that left a lasting impact on our space and our hearts.

Kicking off National Volunteer Week with so much gratitude 🤍

We spent the last two days alongside an incredible group of students and chaperones from the Texas School for the Deaf—showing up with the kind of energy that fills a space in the best way. 🤗

And yesterday, we gathered for a beautiful, gloomy Saturday morning, celebrating our volunteers at our very first Spring Appreciation Picnic. It was a joy to slow down, connect, and shower some of the people who make this place so special. 🧡

This week, we’ll be sharing stories, moments, and the faces behind the magic. Stay tuned as we highlight the many groups and individuals who continue to pour their time, care, and energy into CDM. We couldn’t do this without you 🌿
