Reading with Sola

Reading with Sola Through fun adventures and resources, "Reading with Sola" aims to promote childhood literacy within underrepresented groups.

Reading with Sola is a 501(c)(3) organization that prepares underrepresented children for a lifetime of reading via the promotion of literacy and the supplying of educational resources. Story time is one of the most powerful learning experiences for children because they naturally make sense of the world through story and play. Story time promotes language and literacy skills, but also strengthens

cognitive and social-emotional skills as well. Reading with Sola works to get books directly into the hands of underrepresented children and schools. Moreover, the organization provides story time, resources, activities, and professional development for educators, parents, and literacy volunteers to make certain that reading evolves into a journey of opportunity for children.

This holiday season, Reading with Sola had the amazing opportunity to partner with The Christmas Box Project (TCBP), which has grown exponentially over the last four years. Thanks to your donations, we were able to raise our hands to sponsor 5 boxes and 195 books to kids in Bluefields, Pearl Lagoon, Haulover, Raitpura, Awas, Brown Bank, La Fe, and Corn Island, Nicaragua!

Here’s how TCBP works:
1. They gather the names of children living in different areas on the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua,
2. Find people willing to sponsor a box at a minimum of $25 per box OR,
3. Encourage our friends in Nicaragua to pack a box for a child on the list,
4. Fill each box with toys, books, toiletries, and snacks,
5. Add little notes of encouragement,
6. And then, TCBP personally delivers each box on Dec. 24th-27th.

Reading with Sola remains committed to supporting individuals, nonprofits and other community-based organizations as we aim to eradicate illiteracy within underrepresented groups. We do this via the promotion of literacy and the supplying of educational resources while addressing systemic racism and social justice through the power of books and reading.

Together, we can normalize reading and help provide children with a foundation for success and a lifelong love of reading by creatively engaging and empowering them.
