Making camp happen for others in so many ways! Thanks Sandra!

A Thousand Summers board member Sandra Johnson-Benning is walking every day of second term in solidarity with campers at Colvig Silver Camps.

Sandra Johnson-Benning is turning her daily walks into an Adventure Challenge that raises support for A Thousand Summers and helps more young people experience summer camp. We hope you’ll follow along, cheer her on, and consider supporting her challenge.

You can’t plan this if you tried! Today we had the insanely good luck of timing Gretchen’s Four Corners Flora and Fauna lecture with the extremely rare blooming of our resident monument plants. For those of y’all who aren’t familiar, monument plants live for nearly a century before blooming — usually as a family in a spectacular mass blooming — and then complete their lifecycle. No one can say definitively what prompts their blooming (it has been recorded anywhere from 25ish up to nearly 100 years before blooming). The plant rapidly grows up to as much as 7-8 feet tall, covered in delicate white blossoms that attract native pollinators by the hundreds. Thankfully it was discovered just before today’s lecture and we were able to incorporate it into an incredible flora and fauna afternoon!

Hitting the trails is a big part of CSC, but when we're in camp, we're all about having fun and letting our goofy sides shine. Whether it's Special Day, Kangaroo Kourt, or campfire skits, there's always a reason to get creative, raid the costume closet and dress up! Curious about our program?
