Minnesota native and three-time champion Dakotah Popehn knows there's more to Grandma's Marathon weekend than the race. In 2027, she's adding meaning to her miles.

One of Dakotah's early breakthrough performances came at the 2019 Grandma's Marathon, a fourth-place finish after which she ran straight into the arms of her mom, Connie.

Less than a year later, in 2020, Connie passed away after a short but fierce battle with an aggressive form of lung cancer.

This year, in the buildup to the 2027 Grandma's Marathon, Dakotah is launching "Connie's Crew" and aiming to raise $175,500 in her memory for the American Cancer Society.

Dakotah is a three-time champion in Duluth and a 2024 US Olympian, and even with that success, she knows there's more to life than just running fast. She's not just talking about it, she's doing it.

Fall at Split Rock!

On Saturday, I had the pleasure of flying my drone at Split Rock Lighthouse. I hadn't flown there in two years so it was great to be back again. I was treated to peak fall colors, an awesome sunset and perfect weather.

(NOTE: I did get permission from the site manager to fly my drone, which is required to fly a drone at Split Rock)

I went to the Duluth Harbor Cam Canal Cam at destinationduluth.co/DuluthHarborCamCanalLIVE and saw somebody riding a jet ski, so I jumped in my car and drove down. My feet are soaking wet, but it was worth catching a few photos of this guy catching some air.
