We have the ability to reduce bird-building colllision by 80% by reducing non-essential lighting during migration season. Our location in SE MI makes this especially relelvant as we live under two main flyways, or pathways that millions of birds take each spring and fall. It's VOCAB TIME! This Mallard is a male. But where is the green head, you ask? This male (and males of many other duck species) has undergone an eclipse molt. When breeding season is over, male ducks lose their bright plumage don eclipse plumage instead. So cool.

Look at this guy! The White-breasted Nuthatch is often headed down tree as it look for good things to eat in tree bark, which is often how birders ID them! Sometimes it's not the look of a bird that gives it away it's the behavior (although White-breasted Nuthatches are lovely).
