•• About Our Rescue Group ••

Make A Difference Rescue Inc.(MADR) is a 501c3 non-profit, no kill, canine rescue. We are proud to be one of the best protection shelters in Detroit licensed by the State of Michigan. We assist in pulling from rural area shelters with high kill rates, abused, abandoned and neglected animals. We help the dogs no one else will touch.

•• Adoption Events ••

We have adoption events every Saturday at Premier Pet Supply in Beverly HIlls from 1pm - 4pm. Go to our “Events” tab for info on our next events. If you would like to meet a specific dog at an adoption event, please private message us or use the “contact us” form through our website at www.makeadifferencerescue.com. Since we have over 60 dogs with the rescue, we can not guarantee the attendance of every dog each week.

•• Our Adoption Process ••

All potential adopters are required to fill out an application which can be found on our website at www.makeadifferencerescue.com

We do home inspections for every dog, and cannot drive more than an hour

A fully fenced yard is required for our bully breed dogs and all puppy adoptions

•• Adoption Fees ••

All adult dogs have a one time adoption donation of $300

All puppies have a one time adoption donation of $350

If the dog is over 6 months of age, spaying and neutering is performed by the rescue and at the rescue's cost

•• Available Dogs ••

There are some dogs whose stories need to be told. Mitch is one of them.

For most of his life, Mitch was painted in darkness. He was labeled dangerous. He had allegations against him. He had bitten people. He and a four-month-old puppy named Franny became involved in a terrible incident, and from that point forward, there were people who believed Mitch’s life should simply end.

But there was so much more to Mitch than what was written on a piece of paper.

Mitch came from an unstable, loud and abusive environment. The humans who were supposed to teach him how to live in this world instead gave him very little chance to succeed.

Six and a half years ago, attorneys fighting for Mitch and Franny believed there was something worth saving. We believed it too, and Make A Difference Rescue stepped forward.

We knew his history. We respected it. We didn’t pretend it didn’t exist.

We gave Mitch something different.

Consistency. Structure. Exercise. Patience. Respect.

And most of all, love.

What happened next is the part of Mitch’s story I wish everyone could have seen.

He blossomed.

In

six years in our care, we never had an incident with Mitch. Not one.
He learned to trust us, and we learned to understand him. He loved his blankets. He loved his kennel. He loved going outside and strolling around his yard. As he got older, he even let us put pajamas on him. On his bad days, the girls would sit with him and hand-feed him.

Mitch wasn’t merely housed by us.

He was loved by us.

Keeping our promise to him wasn’t easy.

There were court hearings, attorneys, appeals, Animal Control and battles with the city. There were consequences for standing behind Mitch, and our rescue paid a very high price.

At one point, every dog had to be removed from our facility.

Mitch went with us.

We never left him behind.

We never threw him under the bus because saving him became difficult or expensive. Even when people questioned why we continued fighting for a dog with his history, we kept going.

Because we knew Mitch.

And through everything happening around him, Mitch simply continued being Mitch.

He loved us. He trusted us. And for more than six years, he proved that sometimes a dog’s past tells you where he came from — not necessarily who he is.

As Mitch grew older, cancer came. We treated him. When he developed intestinal problems, we made sure he received his medication every single day. We kept him vaccinated, comfortable, healthy and happy. He had his routine, his people and his place in this rescue.

And we were still fighting for him.

Then his cancer came back in a way we couldn’t fight.

Mitch developed a tumor on his spleen and was bleeding internally.

The day before, he had walked, played and eaten. The following day, he became very sick.

After all the years we spent fighting to keep Mitch alive, we had one final promise to keep: we would not allow him to suffer.

Mitch had only a few hours of discomfort. We were beside him. He had his blanket. He was being petted and loved, and he left this world very peacefully.

His kennel is empty. And it hurts.

For years, so many people wanted Mitch gone.

Now the place where he finally belonged feels unbearably empty without him.

I chose this picture of Mitch for a reason. For so much of his life, people painted him in darkness. But that was the farthest thing from the dog we came to know.

Mitch had an enormous amount of love to give. He simply needed humans who showed him a different way to live.

Every dog in our sanctuary program has a story worth telling, but Mitch’s story may be one of the most important.

His breed worked against him.

His past worked against him.

His humans failed him.

But none of those things were the end of his story.

Love changed the rest of it.

We paid a high price for standing behind Mitch, but if you asked me whether his life was worth fighting for, my answer would still be yes.

Every court appearance.

Every attorney.

Every move.

Every difficult day.

Every single year.

Worth it.

Because in the end, Mitch was never a case number to us.

He was never just a “dangerous dog.”

He was Mitch.

And for six years, he was ours.

Run free, sweet boy. This time there is no court, no case, no label and nobody left to fight.

Just peace.

We love you, Mitch. And we will miss you more than words can say.

Maizey has come so far, and now she’s ready for the final chapter of her journey... finding a family of her own. ❤️

Many of you may remember Maizey as the dog who was found wandering the streets of Detroit, carrying her deceased puppy through the bitter cold. Despite everything she had endured, she never stopped being gentle, loving, and trusting.

Today, Maizey is healthy, thriving, and ready for her happily ever after.

✔️ Heartworm treatment complete
✔️ Spayed
✔️ Up to date on vaccines
✔️ Gained healthy weight
✔️ Ready for adoption

Maizey loves car rides, splashing in her pool, and spending time with her people. She gets along well with other dogs and has the sweetest soul. She is the kind of dog who will quietly steal your heart and remind you every day what resilience looks like.

After everything she’s been through, we know her perfect family is out there. She has survived, healed, and waited patiently. Now all she needs is a place to call home.

If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a heart as beautiful as her story, Maizey may be the one.

Please share to help us find Maizey the forever family she deserves

Meet Rose ♥️

Rose is a sweet, affectionate girl with a bright personality and a heart full of love to give. She has an easy way about her that makes people feel comfortable right away, whether she’s walking alongside you or leaning in for attention.

Rose was rescued from living on a chain outside, along with two other dogs. Those dogs have already found their forever homes. Rose is the last one still waiting. She has done nothing but remain loving, gentle, and hopeful, even after being left behind.

She loves being around people, enjoys getting out for walks, and is happiest when she knows she’s included. Rose has a joyful spirit and a quiet resilience that makes her impossible not to root for. She deserves the same happy ending her companions received.

Rose is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and ready for a forever home where she will never be forgotten or left behind again. She has waited long enough.

If you’re looking for a loyal companion who truly deserves her chance, Rose is ready to be chosen. 🐾

Bobbi wasn’t supposed to make it

For a moment, his heart stopped.

When the narcotics team entered a drug house, they found Bobbi unresponsive. They immediately called us, and we rushed him to the emergency hospital. On the way there, his heart gave out.

Somehow... they brought him back.

Most dogs don’t get a second chance like that.

As if that wasn’t enough, Bobbi also had parvo. But once again, he refused to give up.

He fought.

And he won.

Today, Bobbi is everything you’d hope for in a best friend. He’s a happy, healthy young dog with just the right amount of energy. He loves going for car rides and will happily “talk” to you the entire drive like he’s catching you up on his day. More than anything, he just wants to be with his people. With proper introductions, he does well with other dogs.

But every evening, after all he’s overcome, Bobbi walks back into a shelter kennel.

After surviving a drug house.
After surviving parvo.
After surviving when his own heart stopped beating...

He’s still waiting for someone to choose him.

Bobbi has already fought for his life. He shouldn’t have to keep fighting for a family.

Please help us find the home he’s waited so long for. Fill out an application or reach out with any questions. His miracle deserves the happy ending it’s been waiting for.

Meet Acorn 🌰

Somehow, this sweet boy has been waiting since he was just a puppy… and we truly can’t understand why.

Acorn is about 2 years old, and he has grown into the most lovable, fun, and well-rounded dog. He does great with other dogs, loves to play, and would thrive in a home where he can have a buddy or soak up all the attention as your one and only.

He’s the kind of dog who has been overlooked for far too long, not because he isn’t amazing… but because he just hasn’t been seen by the right person yet. Could that be you?

Acorn is ready for a fresh start. Ready for a family who will choose him, love him, and never leave him wondering when it’s his turn again.

Let’s finally make Acorn’s story a happy ending 💛

Apply to adopt him today, he’s been waiting his whole life for this.
