April is National Volunteer Month!

Looking for something meaningful to be part of?

Our Doll Dressing Program is one of the most heartfelt ways to support Detroit Goodfellows. Each year, volunteers help dress thousands of dolls that go into our holiday packages for girls ages 4 to 9.

Every doll tells a story. It is not just about the outfit, it is about the care behind it and the joy it brings to a child.

We see individuals, families, and groups come together year after year to keep this tradition going, and we couldn't be more grateful!

If you want to be part of something like this, fill out our doll dresser request form and join us. https://airtable.com/app4uw3i4Q08geAIA/pagLOQHey3xIUy6Wi/form

Dolls are picked up in Detroit and returned by August so they are ready in time for the holidays.

Happy Monday, Detroit!

As we begin a new fiscal year, we’re excited to welcome Annie Nickert as the new President of Detroit Goodfellows. Annie steps into leadership at a meaningful time for our organization as we continue building on strong momentum and carrying forward our 112 year promise of No Kiddie Without a Christmas.

We also want to take a moment to thank Rick Pacynski for his leadership over the past two years. Rick guided the organization with dedication and care, helping us exceed our 2025 fundraising goal and strengthening our ability to serve more than 25,000 children this year.

We’re grateful for Rick’s service and excited for what’s ahead under Annie’s leadership. Detroit shows up, and because of that, our promise continues ❤️

The Old Newsboys’ Goodfellow Fund of Detroit has named Annie Nickert as its new president and announced that it exceeded its 2025 fundraising goal of $1.4 million. Nickert moves into […]

At Detroit Goodfellows, we are proud to serve families from many beautiful cultures and faith traditions across our city.

As many of our neighbors observe Ramadan, we want to send our warmest wishes to you and your families. May this sacred month bring peace to your homes, strength to your hearts, and moments of reflection and connection with the people you love most.

Ramadan Mubarak ❤️

This Black History Month, we’re taking time to honor the history, culture, and contributions of Black communities that have shaped Detroit into the city it is today.

At Detroit Goodfellows, our work has always been rooted in community care, resilience, and showing up for children and families. These values come from generations of Black leaders, educators, organizers, and families who have long modeled what it means to take care of one another and create opportunities rooted in joy and dignity.

As we reflect this month, we also encourage you to celebrate Black history right here in Detroit. Our city is filled with powerful stories, cultural spaces, and events that uplift Black voices, past and present.

Take time to learn, to celebrate, to support Black-owned businesses, and to show up for the stories that continue to shape our community. A few ways to get started include visiting the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, checking out Black History Month programming at the Detroit Institute of Arts, or exploring local celebrations happening across the city here: https://theneighborhoods.org/story/lit-ways-celebrate-black-history-month

Real impact starts with the examples we set.

Ms. Tatianna Johnson from Mumford High School shared why giving back matters and how it shapes the next generation. This work spans generations and is only possible because of community care and support. As we work to raise $120,000 by January 31 to sustain year-round programs for children and families, we invite you to give if you’re able. Every contribution helps us continue showing up, for years to come!

During the 2025 holiday season, Detroit Goodfellows was honored to provide holiday gift packages to more than 25,000+ children across Detroit and surrounding communities.

Each package was thoughtfully assembled with care and included books, toys, candy, warm winter clothing, stuffed animals, dolls for children ages four through nine, and more than 1,000 pairs of winter boots.

As we look ahead, we are still working to raise approximately $120,000 by January 31 to support the year round programs families rely on, including free dental care, scholarships, a free shoe program, and summer camperships.

If you are able, please consider making a donation. Every contribution helps us continue showing up for children and families throughout the year 💛

As we continue coming down from a busy holiday season and head into the final stretch of our fiscal year, we wanted to pause and say THANK YOU.

Because of you , our donors, volunteers, partners, and Goodfellow Members, nearly 26,000 children and their families across our community felt warmth, joy, and seen this holiday season. From warm winter clothing and books to toys, dolls, stuffed animals, and winter boots, your generosity showed up in ways that truly mattered

We are so grateful to everyone who gave their time, energy, and hearts to this work. A special thank you to our friends at:

- Ford House: for opening their doors and hosting a generous toy drive in support of our families
- Michigan Science Center for donating over 100 LEGO kits, bringing creativity, learning, and joy to so many children
- Community Focus Federal Credit Union (Ecorse Branch) for hosting a toy drive and rallying their community to give back
- Broadway In Detroit - The Fisher Theatre and more! volunteers who stepped in with helping hands and open hearts during distribution
- Detroit Police Department, Chief Todd Bettison , and WAYCO Sheriff Raphael Washington for stopping by, supporting our teams, and helping make distribution days extra special
- Boy Scout Troop 499 for preparing hundreds of stockings with care, time, and thoughtfulness

Every box packed, every stocking stuffed, every hour volunteered helped ensure that children across Detroit, Hamtramck, Highland Park, Harper Woods, Ecorse, Redford, and River Rouge were not forgotten this holiday season

As we enter the final days of our fiscal year, our 2025 fundraising goal remains $1.4 million, and we are $120,000 away from reaching it. Closing this gap helps us continue our mission not only during the holidays, but throughout the year, supporting programs like dental care, scholarships, summer camperships, and other essential resources for children and families

If you’re able, we invite you to give, share, or help us spread the word. Every dollar, every share, and every act of support helps us keep our promise:

No Kiddie Without a Christmas. ❤️

Thank you for believing in our children, our families, and our community, today and always!
