We are heartbroken by the loss of Professor Jason Arday, a brilliant scholar, author, and trailblazer in sociology of education at the University of Cambridge. His work and his presence made space for so many.

Thousands gathered in London this week to mourn him, many pointing to the relentless and racist media scrutiny he faced in his final months. Media bullying is not okay. Jason was a human being, not a headline.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, loved ones, and the countless students and colleagues whose lives he touched.

Rest in peace, Professor Arday. Your legacy endures.

Dr. Jason Arday has passed. Diagnosed autistic as a child, he didn’t speak until he was 11, and still became the youngest Black professor in Cambridge’s history. That’s the story that should be remembered.

Instead, weeks before his death, he was dragged through a public pile-on over plagiarism accusations, questions about his qualifications, even scrutiny of his charity fundraising. He resigned. Days later, he was gone.

We have to ask why the response to a Black man’s mistakes is so often not correction, but destruction. Black excellence gets held to a standard where perfection is the price of respect, and even then, it’s not enough.

Jamal Johnson, an 11-year-old boy with autism from Valley Stream, Long Island, was safely found by Port Authority police in a TSA security line at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) after he successfully took an Uber on his own.

Following the safe recovery, the boy’s family urged rideshare companies to more strictly enforce their policies regarding minors traveling without adults.

Some meetings are a little spicier than others.

Today’s meeting is dedicated to every mom who has ever been told:
✨ you’re overreacting
✨ you worry too much
✨ someone else knows what’s best for your child
✨ you’ll “figure it out”

And somehow... you did.

You figured out therapies.
You figured out insurance.
You figured out medications.
You figured out equipment.
You figured out school meetings.
You figured out how to function on very little sleep and entirely too much responsibility.

The truth is, most people have absolutely no idea how much you carry every single day.

Which is exactly why we laugh.

Because if we didn’t laugh, we’d probably start a spreadsheet, write an appeal letter, and organize a movement before dinner.
