This week is for civic learning, starting with a “know your rights” training today at Eastside Community Network. Share what’s on your mind with local journalists and enjoy free coffee with Outlier Media on Thursday.

Attend a film screening, book talk and discussion related to the labor movement on Friday. Get the resources and skills to build community power at the General Baker Institute on Sunday.

Plus, we’re still cleaning up the city. Motor City Makeover continues this Saturday in Districts 4 and 5. Rouge Park Appreciation Day is also Saturday. Belle Isle kayak cleanups also kick off May 16 and repeat every third Saturday through September.

And if you just can’t get enough, Friends of the Detroit River are running monthly cleanups of Ecorse Creek this summer, too.

Learn about local government at Detroit Documenters Orientation on May 27 at TechTown, or May 30 online. Follow that up with a Petty Propolis workshop on making public comment, also on May 30.

Level up your civic life and get involved. Full list in the comments.
