Combining classroom and hands-on skill components, child care providers and parents learn critical first aid skills, ranging from how to create a safe environment to prevent injuries to lifesaving CPR. Course content also includes illnesses and injuries, bleeding and bandaging, allergic reactions, how to use an epinephrine pen, asthma, bites and stings, and burns. This class does not include adult CPR/AED.

Laker Kids

The Detroit Lakes School Age Child Care Program (Laker Kids) was designed to meet the needs of the area families. Our primary goal is to provide a safe, happy, and enriching supervised environment for your child(ren) and provide activities for learning and fun with a limited amount of structure.

The activities planned by the Laker Kids staff emphasize the development of educational and recreational skills. Although space is provided for students to do homework, we will not emphasize academic skills. Activities include recreation and gym time, games, outdoor time, crafts, and creative play.

The Child Care Program is for students in Full Day Preschool through Grade 5. The Summer Laker Kids program is for students entering Kindergarten-5th grade!

Our School Readiness Preschool Program is a 4 Star Parent Aware-rated program, the highest rating by Minnesota’s Quality Rating and Improvement System, for children ages 3-5, inclusive of children with special needs.

All teachers are licensed in education and early childhood.

Research-based High Scope Curriculum, implemented in classes, teaches children to initiate, discover, experience, and learn about ideas, events, and people. Children will create, experiment, problem-solve, and resolve conflicts as they learn.
This approach enhances each young person’s growth in the foundations of academics as well as in social-emotional, physical, and creative areas. Second Step
Early Learning Social-Emotional Curriculum and Conscious Discipline are also implemented.
