Let's light a fire, grill some food, and have a drink for it is Beltane today!! The ancient peoples first day of summer.

Beltane is mentioned in the earliest Irish literature. It marked the beginning of summer and was when cattle were driven out to the summer pastures. Rituals were performed to protect cattle, people and crops, and to encourage growth. Bonfires were kindled, whose flames, smoke and ashes were believed to have protective powers. Food and drinks would be placed as an offering to the fairy folk. Doors, windows, byres and livestock were decorated with yellow May flowers. When the bonfire died down, people would dab themselves with its ashes and sprinkle it over their crops and livestock. Burning torches from the bonfire would be taken home, carried around the house and border of the farmstead, and used to re-light the hearth.

Photo credit-my back yard. I would never use AI to create an image of fire. I think the flame has the shape of a big buck. Maybe it's me or maybe it's pareidolia

Man oh man. We have gotten a bunch of new followers in recent weeks. As far as I can tell, these people actually exist 😁 I dont know which shore they all washed up on, or strange tree they were all climbing, or stone they found us under, but we sure appreciate the likes.

If you would let us know the rabbit hole you fell in when you stumbled upon us, we would really appreciate it.

Happy Easter! Or is it Eostra? Why are there rabbits and eggs on a holiday celebrated for the death and resurrection of a man? Why does the date change every year? Thank the Pagans who came up with these ideas first.

The word Easter comes from Eostre (also spelled Ostara), an Anglo-Saxon and Germanic goddess associated with dawn, springtime, fertility, and renewal. By the eighth century Anglo–Saxons had adopted the name to designate the celebration of Christ’s resurrection

The rabbit was a symbol associated with Eostre, representing the beginning of Springtime. Likewise, the egg has come to represent Spring, fertility, and renewal. In Germanic mythology, it is said that Eostre healed a wounded bird she found in the woods by changing it into a hare. Still partially a bird, the hare showed its gratitude to the goddess by laying eggs as gifts.

The date which Easter is held corresponds with the first Sunday following the full moon after the March equinox.

To every Christian holiday there lies Pagan roots. This was how the Christians converted old religions to theirs. By saving the peoples customs and imagery with a slight twist.

Enjoy the holiday your way. May it include dinner with family, friends, but most importantly Ham.
