Roughly 9,000 Coloradans lost access to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recently. If you’ve been affected by the changes, we have a few extra appointments in our Fresh Foods Market on Thursdays on a first-come, first-served basis.

There are a lot of exceptions to the new rules. Contact your county caseworker to be sure! Let us know in the comments if you need help or more information.

When corporate landlords can raise rents however high they want, how can families afford to eat? Our community is fed up. Jeff, a volunteer and community connector, wrote to The Denver Post about why local governments should be able to implement local rent stabilization.

Farmer and rancher Ed Dubrick received a phone call from a father who had lost his job and was raising three kids. The man told him he had gotten some of Ed's chicken at the food bank and that it was the first time in months he felt like he could feed his children the good food they deserved.

Ed and his wife, Lindsey, sold their crops to local food banks as part of the USDA's Local Food Assistance Program, which gave money to food pantries and schools to buy food directly from small, local farmers. A year after the USDA cancelled the program, Civil Eats learned that farmers are struggling to keep up.

LFPA proved that government programs can support more local and resilient food systems, and we'll keep working to make programs like these return, stronger and better than before.

For too long, corporate landlords and real estate developers have blocked efforts to lift the statewide ban on the local rent stabilization policies that our communities need.

This is our message to those running to be our next governor: It's time to stand with the people and prioritize solutions – like local rent stabilization – that keep us in our homes.

As working-class people from across the state who are renters, we are struggling to keep up with our housing costs and we are being forced into impossible choices between rent and groceries, between staying....

Corporate landlords have driven rents so high that families are forced out of their neighborhoods and into making impossible choices between rent, groceries or healthcare.

In your campaigns for governor, when we ask you about unaffordable rents, your answers point to only one part of the equation: building more housing.

But you have a choice: Support rent stabilization so local communities can make rents affordable or keep relying on the corporate control of housing that broke it in the first place.

We think the answer is easy. But just in case, we’ll be at town halls, debates and events across Colorado to remind you.

Expanding the Cottage Foods Act finally PASSED!

Soon, small business entrepreneurs will be able to sell hot and temperature-controlled foods out of their home kitchens. It expands opportunities for home-based chefs and cooks without needing access to a commercial kitchen.

Your advocacy and leadership made this possible. Thank you for all the calls and emails you sent to your elected officials! Together, we can create good policies and positive change in our state.
