CVC exists to bridge the gap between the streets and stable housing by creating and operating transformational shelter communities in partnership with people coming from homelessness.

The intersection between health and homelessness is undeniable. People experiencing homelessness aren’t able to manage their chronic medical problems the same way that someone with stable housing can.

A more stable environment and access to supportive services really allow people to begin prioritizing their health again.

We made the difficult decision to temporarily shut down operations at our Monroe Tiny Home Village after the move in September.

A few important things to know:

1. None of our community members are going to end up back on the streets.

2. We won’t lose us anything in terms of the key physical assets needed to operate the Villages. Our infrastructure is going to be safely stored and kept for future use.

3. We’re going to keep all of the committed, hard-working staff currently at Monroe. Over the next several months, we’ll be integrating these staff members into our teams at other sites.

Doing this work, we all learn that life is rarely a straight line. Your continued support will allow us to find a permanent home for the Villages and to continue operating people-focused, peer-led, transformational shelters for years to come.

If you talk to anyone on our sites, there’s a good chance one of their goals is to spread love and help others. Some community members continue on to train and work as Peer Support Specialists and help others in their transformative recovery journey, having known what it’s like to struggle and what kind of support it takes to succeed.

Rod is a Site Coordinator at our Steele Street community. Like a lot of our staff, he wears many hats. It sounds obvious, but to support someone successfully, we need to see them as a whole person, with different and unique needs and goals. So our work can change day to day because people live complex, always-changing lives.

But at the end of the day, it’s all about connecting with people and offering a holistic level of support.

Transgender and femme-identifying people face some of the highest risks and barriers when it comes to accessing housing and support services.

Our Welcome Village offers one of the only dedicated, affirming spaces in Denver where identities are validated and safety is a priority.

When you don’t have a safe place to keep your stuff, you have to carry everything with you wherever you go. It’s exhausting and makes it harder to focus on getting ahead. So something as simple as secure storage can really make a difference in someone’s sense of dignity and freedom.

Our staff tries hard to create spaces where people can rest, recover, and move toward their goals. Community members are leaders in their own path to stable housing, but support from the people around them can make that lift a little lighter.

We invited CrossPurpose out to our sites to host info sessions for community members.

26 people showed up and many were ready to sign up for Launch, CrossPurpose’s free career planning program that provides one-on-one coaching and curriculum to help ID barriers, break through them, and start a new job.

People’s interest has kept growing since, proving once again that good things happen when you bring opportunities directly to our communities.

Moving is the worst. Packing up an entire micro-community, loading it on flatbeds, and setting it all back up takes a ton of time and resources to do well and right.

That’s why we’re fundraising, so we can be properly prepared for when the time comes to move Monroe to its new site. Thank you for lending a hand in our move.

Denver Public Library came to the Steele Micro-Community recently to host a computer basics and email workshop for community members. In today’s world, knowing how to navigate an inbox is important for applying for jobs, staying in touch, and using the internet!

It’s also worth shouting out that their Bookmobile stops by every week so folks can check out books, rent DVDs, and get connected to other library resources.
