Family Night at First Step last Wednesday had a little of everything -- including clay sculptures, temporary tattoos, and Halloween face masks!

Moms and their kids started the evening with dinner together, then everyone spread out across the activity tables. It was so special to see everyone engaged and having a good time!

Thank you to Diana Santos, Family Advocate at First Step, for helping put together this wonderful night. Thank you to our volunteers from Regis University, who threw themselves into the evening with the kids and made it even more special. And thank you to Jacqueline Vedra, Warren Village board member, for sponsoring the event.

Jessica and her son Deven love making brownies together. Before moving into Warren Village, though, they didn't have a kitchen of their own to share -- they were moving through unstable housing situations.

Over the course of 2025 and 2026, Jessica built a resume, was recently promoted, and is building a future that lasts.

Warren Village has a new interim leader!

The Board of Trustees has appointed Andrea Stiles Pullas as Interim CEO, serving from November 21, 2026 through March 31, 2027.

Andrea brings 25 years in social impact work, most recently as CEO of Prosono. She has steadied organizations through leadership change before, at Engineers Without Borders USA and elsewhere, and she comes to this role already knowing Warren Village well after serving on our Board and policy committee.

Her focus will be on continuity. Our vice presidents will keep leading their teams, our programs will run as they are running today, and Andrea will keep us close to the funders, partners and policymakers who make the work possible.

We are grateful to Ethan Hemming for more than a decade of leadership, and glad to have Andrea with us for this chapter.

Thank you, Accel-KKR 🎉

During their all-staff retreat, the Accel-KKR team spent their end-of-day activity assembling 87 goodie bags, one for every student at our Gilpin ELC. Each bag included a puffy jacket, beanie, gloves, Play-Doh, a sticker book, a water book + pen, a sensory pop toy, letter magnets, and a bubble bottle. They then loaded everything into the van and sent it our way. They also donated diapers and snacks for our families.

Accel-KKR's partnership began with one of their team members, who recently helped move a resident into our community. It's so cool how one act of kindness can lead someone to learn about our mission, and then so quickly blossom into something more.

Did you know?

An estimated 7,350 babies and toddlers in Colorado are experiencing homelessness. That's about 3 in every 100 children under age 4.

The years from birth to age 3 are critical for a child's physical and social-emotional development, and early learning programs can help ease the impact of homelessness. But only 1 in 5 of these children (1,461) were identified as enrolled in a program. That leaves an estimated 5,889 not confirmed as enrolled in any program.

The first three years of life shape a child's development in huge ways, and early learning programs can help ease the impact of housing instability. But only 1 in 5 of these children were identified as enrolled in a program.

This is why high-quality early learning is a crucial component of our two-generation approach to lifting families. At Warren Village, our Early Learning Center gives children a place to learn, grow, and be kids.

Meet Tremaine and his seven-year-old daughter, Eliza!

Tremaine was one of the first residents at our new Alameda campus and one of only a few dads in our community. He arrived with Eliza, who proudly claimed the top bunk the moment she saw it in her room.

For their family, having a safe place to rebuild their lives has changed everything. “It just seems like she’s happier,” Tremaine says. “Just having her own space, somewhere she can call home.”

Their full story is coming in our annual Impact Report, which we’ll be sharing over the next month. We're so excited to share our stories, successes, and what we learned from the past year. Stay tuned!

What happens after Warren Village? Three alumni are coming back to answer that question in person.

At our next Connections Breakfast, Kaysha Hudson, Dionna Jackson, and April Allen will share how their time here shaped their journeys. Kaysha earned her bachelor's and master's degrees while working full time as a single mom and starts her doctorate in January. Dionna built a company that gives artists a national stage. April moved in with her two-year-old in 2010, and today holds two degrees from Colorado State.

Bring your questions and meet others who care about the families we serve. Stay after for an optional tour of our Alameda campus!

This is a great way to feel more connected to our mission and community. Highly recommended!

Some bittersweet news to share with our community – after 10 years as our President and CEO, Ethan Hemming will step down on November 20 to lead Junior Achievement - Rocky Mountain, Inc.

Ethan has been part of so many of our biggest moments, including opening the doors at our new campus at Alameda and our 50th anniversary celebration.

But many of us will remember him for how often he showed up for the smaller moments – visiting with kids at the Early Learning Centers, serving food at family events, conversations in the hallways, and his genuine warmth and care for our staff and families.

For our families, nothing changes. Programs, services and support will continue, and our Board of Directors will lead the search for our next President and CEO in the coming weeks.

Despite this change, no chapter in our history has ever been written by one person alone, and the same community that brought us here will carry us into what comes next.

120+ kids just started the school year with a brand-new pair of shoes!

Thanks so much to our community that came together on for our annual Shoe Drive. Thirty-one pairs were delivered straight to our Alameda campus and 92 to Gilpin.
