This week ends our series celebrating some of the incredible members of Heritage Camp's Board of Directors. Today, we hear from the person who started it all, Pam Sweetser. ❣️

"Something I have always believed is that as parents there is no greater gift you can give your children than the opportunity to discover who they really are, and to celebrate in that discovery alongside them. For our children, provided that opportunity in a way no other place really could."

What started as a single weekend camp for Korean adoptees evolved into something far bigger. Pam's original vision grew to include Indian camp (for her son) and expanded into what we now know as the 8 heritage camps, plus Domestic.

For 35 years, Pam held one core belief: Adoptees deserve spaces where they can discover their identity, connect with their culture, and celebrate being exactly who they are—while surrounded by families who understand and can support them.

That belief built a legacy.

Help us celebrate this incredible milestone and its founder, Pam!👏

🏕️ Camp season kicks off tomorrow with African-Caribbean Heritage Camp!

Congratulations are in order to our very own Board Member, Jared Rehberg, who is featured in the ABC 20/20 and ABC News Emmy Award Winning Long Form Feature for: Operation Babylift, The 50 Year Journey.📽️🏆

This award winning feature documents personal stories of children airlifted out of Vietnam in 1975 during a high-stakes mission, along with their adoption journeys and their reunion 50 years later with those who made the operation a success.

Proud to see one of our own featured in this special and impactful episode, and honored to be part of so many adoptees' journeys. Camp never ends!💛

It’s less than one week until camp season officially gets started, which means it’s time for another feature in our “Words from Our Board of Directors” series. 🎉

This week, we’re featuring Kelli Anderson, HCAF Board President, whose family’s journey with Heritage Camps spans more than 20 years and multiple generations.

What began as attending camp with her children has now come full circle as she returns with her grandsons — a beautiful reminder of the lasting impact these communities can have across generations.

As Board President, Kelli’s leadership, passion, and dedication to Heritage Camps continue to help strengthen this community and ensure future generations of adoptees and families feel connected and supported.

Stories like Kelli’s reflect the deep connection, belonging, and lifelong relationships built through Heritage Camps over the past 35 years. 💛

Like and follow as we ramp up to our favorite time of year and feature real-time camp content!

We’re another week closer to camp season starting, which means another feature in our “Words from Our Board of Directors” series 🎉

This week, we’re featuring Eliza Niemann, HCAF Board Member, whose family found a truly special connection through Latin American Heritage Camp.

What started as arriving at camp not knowing anyone turned into a lifelong friendship with another family whose daughter shared the same birthplace, birth country, and birthdate as their own daughter. What an incredible coincidence!

Stories like this remind us just how powerful community can be.

We love hearing stories that reflect the connection, belonging, and relationships built through Heritage Camps over the past 35 years. 💛

If you enjoy them just as much as we do, like and share this post!

At HCAF, we know mental health is deeply connected to identity, culture, and belonging—and that journey continues into adulthood.

That’s why spaces like camp matter. For kids and teens, but also for adult adoptees, camp is a place to connect, reflect, and be with people who support, understand, and have been on the journey. 💜

With only 3 weeks until camp, we’re sharing our 3rd board members' impact story.

Meet Eric Bartram, Board Member & Korean Adoptee

"Over my 30 years with HCAF and Korean Heritage Camp, I developed deep and long-lasting relationships with other adoptees that I could have never imagined possible anywhere else. I cherish these life-long friendships that still remain today. That connection is built upon unforgettable memories and an unshakable bond."

Eric first attended Korean Heritage Camp three decades ago as a young adoptee. What he found was something that would shape the rest of his life: other Korean adoptees who understood his experience.

The friendships Eric made at camp weren't just weekend buddies. They became his closest, most enduring relationships. Decades later, those same people are still part of his story.

Now Eric serves on HCAF's Board of Directors, dedicating his time to ensuring that today's Korean adoptees, and adoptees from all nine heritage camps, can experience the same life-changing community he found 30 years ago.

The connections formed at Heritage Camp are different. It's built on shared experience, cultural understanding, and the deep connections that are created in safe spaces where you truly belong.

💜Tag or share with a friend who can benefit from this kind of beautiful community.

As we get closer to our flagship summer camp season kicking off in just a few weeks, we have a long list of to-dos to tackle.

✅One of our favorites: counselor training available both virtually and in-person!

Once again, we have an experienced and diverse group of counselors ready to lead camp groups of all ages. Many of them have experienced camp themselves and are excited to support this important community!

Follow along as we share more camp prep updates!🏕️
