MiDian Shofner embodies the essence of Denver, Colorado, as a multi-generational resident whose family’s roots run deep in the city’s history. Shaped by the strength and wisdom of her ancestors, she has carved a leadership path rooted in advocacy, faith, and activism.

As the visionary CEO of the Epitome of Black Excellence & Partnership and Owner/Founder of 8PM Consulting for Humanity, MiDian brings a wealth of life experiences and an unwavering commitment to racial justice. Her journey as a community leader, corporate executive, and cultural justice advocate informs her ability to engage, educate, and uplift communities.

MiDian’s work is rooted in educating, enlightening, and empowering individuals to confront systemic racism and create meaningful change. She believes real transformation begins with personal connection, deep introspection, and moving from conversation to action.

We’re excited to welcome Nicole Tann, who will be joining us at the Grieve Gracefully Symposium on Saturday, October 17!

About Nicole:

Nicole Tann, Chapter President
South Suburban Denver Chapter, Jack and Jill of America Inc.

Nicole Tann is a servant leader with more than 30 years of professional and community service leadership. She currently serves as President of the South Suburban Denver Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated, where she is committed to cultivating meaningful experiences that empower children, strengthen families, and create lasting impact.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Northern Colorado, with a minor in Special Education. She began her career with the Head Start organization as a liaison for families of children with special needs. Nicole is a career flight attendant, business owner and served six years as a Colorado-licensed Associate Broker/Realtor.

Raised in an Air Force family, Nicole has lived throughout the United States, developing an appreciation for diverse cultures. She serves as a Deaconess at True Light Baptist Church while also serving as a Parent-Teacher Organization Board Member. Nicole and her husband, Jesse, have been married for 28 years and are the proud parents of two exceptional children.

We’re excited to welcome Preston Adams, who will be presenting at the Grieve Gracefully Symposium on Friday, October 16!

About Preston:

Preston is from Aurora, CO, and has a strong love and passion for Aurora, Denver, and all of Colorado. Preston has held various professional roles for nearly 20 years, including teacher/educator, coach, mentor, transition/re-entry specialist, program director, regional director, Co-Founder, and consultant. All of his experience has centered on gang and/or system-impacted youth and families throughout the Denver-Metro Area and the entire state of Colorado.

Currently, Preston oversees Youth Violence Prevention for the city and county of Denver. Preston has been a local and national consultant aiding non-profits and government entities with an emphasis on organizational culture, management, youth violence prevention/intervention, gang and system-involved young people, leadership development, systemic reform, belonging, restoration, transformation, and deep equity.

In everything Preston does, he seeks to center the voices, experiences, and stories of those youth and families who find themselves furthest on the margins to bring about systemic and long-standing change.

Personally, Preston’s most important roles are as a husband/partner to his wife, Francine, and as a father to their son, Uriyah.

About Dr. Richards:

Kinette Richards, PhD, MA, NCC
CEO and Founder, Creating Space Equity Consulting, LLC

Kinette Richards, PhD, MA, NCC is an award-winning school psychologist and nationally certified counselor with over 30 years of experience supporting adults, adolescents, children, and families across school, hospital, and community settings. She is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Denver. Her professional work focuses on trauma-informed care, grief and loss, culturally responsive intervention, and systems-level support for students and families navigating complex emotional needs, where she advocates for equitable access to mental health services.

She is the CEO and founder of Creating Space Equity Consulting, LLC, a people, systems, and culture consultancy dedicated to transforming organizational culture through an equity lens. She partners with healthcare, schools, nonprofits, and government organizations to help cultivate environments where all voices are heard. Her approach is highly relational, blending clinical expertise with human-centered facilitation to create space for honest, open dialogue.

Dr. Richards holds a Doctorate in School Psychology from the University of Denver and a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from the University of Colorado Denver. She also holds certificates in Leading Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion from Northwestern University and in Leadership from UC Davis.

Founder and Licensed Therapist/Clinical Director, Still I Rise Counseling Services

Stephanie Tatum is a Licensed Professional Counselor and the Founder and Clinical Director of Still I Rise Counseling Services, a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive group practice in Colorado. She leads a team of seven clinicians and specializes in working with individuals, couples, and families navigating trauma, substance use, relational challenges, anxiety, depression, grief, and racial trauma.

Her clinical approach is rooted in an anti-oppressive and culturally responsive framework. She is deeply committed to creating spaces where individuals, particularly members of the global majority and historically marginalized communities, feel seen, heard, and empowered.

Stephanie is especially passionate about supporting communities impacted by systemic oppression. She believes the impact of healing extends beyond the individual, supporting change within families and across generations. Outside of her professional work, Stephanie enjoys being a wife, a mother of four adult children, and a grandmother. She values spending meaningful time with family and friends.

We’re excited to welcome Kathryn Kalata, presenting on Friday, October 16!

About Kathryn Kalata:

Kathryn Kalata, MD, is a Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellow at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. She is passionate about working toward health justice, elevating the voices of community members to create more equitable outcomes, and providing exceptional clinical care in a compassionate, culturally responsive manner.

After completing her undergraduate degree at Northwestern University, she completed her medical degree, Pediatric Residency, and Chief Residency at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Kathryn is committed to bringing community-based participatory research and collaborative community engagement practices to Pediatric medicine.

Through working with community members to better understand their experiences, strengths within their communities, and opportunities for additional support, she is dedicated to furthering culturally responsive grief support practices within healthcare systems and the broader community throughout her career.
