We’re proud to celebrate our Executive Director, Shay Jacobs, on graduating from the Transformative Leadership for Change (TLC) Fellowship!

Over the past year, the TLC Fellowship has equipped BIPOC leaders across Colorado through leadership development, healing, peer connection, and community building. We’re excited to see Shay bring these experiences back to Adam’s Purpose as we continue strengthening support for grieving Black children and families.

Please join us in congratulating Shay on this well-deserved achievement! We also extend our sincere thanks to the TLC team for investing in leaders of color and helping build stronger communities through transformational leadership.

Please note that there will be no Family Healing Circles during the month of July.

We encourage you to use this time to enjoy the fresh air, spend time with loved ones, practice self-care, and reflect on the lessons, connections, and healing that have taken place through Family Healing Circles during the first half of the year.

Healing doesn’t stop when the circle ends. Take this month to continue nurturing yourself in the ways that feel most meaningful to you.

We look forward to reconnecting with you in August. đź’™

In the meantime, check out this recap from June Family Healing Circles.

✨ Introducing Our Mom Spotlight Series ✨

At Adam’s Purpose, our moms are the heart of our community. Each of them carries the journey of child loss while serving as peer advocates, volunteers, and sources of hope for other grieving families.

But their stories don’t stop there.
Beyond Adam’s Purpose, these remarkable women are leaders, authors, entrepreneurs, students, professionals, and changemakers making a meaningful impact in their families and communities every day.

Each month, we’ll spotlight one incredible peer advocate to celebrate her journey, honor her strength, and recognize the many ways she continues to inspire others.

🌸Meet Our Mom in the Spotlight This Month:

Casandra Watkins

Casandra Watkins is a mother, author, advocate, and counseling intern whose life has been shaped by resilience, faith, and unconditional love. Following the murder of her son, Kanajai Burton, in 2022, she transformed her pain into purpose by supporting other families impacted by violence and loss.

She serves as Co-Leader of the Denver Chapter of Parents of Murdered Children (POMC), Inc. and is honored to serve as a Peer Advocate with Adam’s Purpose, where she facilitates support groups for bereaved mothers and helps create spaces for healing, connection, and remembrance. Through Adam’s Purpose, she has witnessed the power of mothers supporting mothers and the importance of ensuring that no grieving parent walks this journey alone.

Casandra is currently pursuing a degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with the goal of working with families impacted by grief, trauma, and homicide loss, particularly mothers whose children have been taken by violence.

She is the author of SonSet On a Mother’s Heart: A Mother’s Journey After the Murder of Her Son, a memoir that chronicles her journey through grief, faith, healing, and advocacy while honoring the life and legacy of her son, Kanajai.

Today, we honor and celebrate fathers.

At Adam’s Purpose, we recognize the strength, love, sacrifice, and dedication that fathers bring to their families and communities every day. We also hold space for fathers who are carrying grief, navigating loss, missing a child, or honoring the memory of a child they love deeply.

Father’s Day can bring a mixture of emotions. Whether today is filled with joy, remembrance, gratitude, heartache, or all of the above, please know that your experiences are seen and your love matters.

To all fathers, grandfathers, father figures, and grieving dads, we honor you today and every day.

Happy Father’s Day from all of us at Adam’s Purpose. 💙

Today, we proudly celebrate Juneteenth, a day that honors freedom, resilience, culture, and the enduring strength of the Black community.

At Adam’s Purpose, our mission is rooted in providing help, hope, and healing to Black grieving families. We understand that healing happens within the context of culture, community, and connection. As we commemorate Juneteenth, we recognize both the progress that has been made and the continued work of creating spaces where Black individuals and families feel seen, supported, and valued.

Today, we celebrate the rich legacy, contributions, and resilience of those who came before us while remaining committed to walking alongside families as they navigate grief, healing, and hope.

May we continue to honor our history, strengthen our communities, and create a future where every family has access to the care, support, and belonging they deserve.

Happy Juneteenth from all of us at Adam’s Purpose.

We are excited to share that our Executive Director, Shay Jacobs, will be speaking at the 29th National Symposium on Children’s Grief, hosted by the National Alliance for Children’s Grief in San Antonio, Texas.

This national gathering brings together professionals from across the country who are committed to supporting children, teens, and families impacted by grief. Shay will join fellow leaders and partners in sharing how culturally responsive, community-centered approaches can help transform grief care for Black children and families.

We are honored to have Adam’s Purpose represented in this important conversation and grateful for the opportunity to elevate the voices, experiences, and healing journeys of the families we serve.

We invite our community to celebrate and support Shay as she shares, learns, and helps advance equitable grief support on a national stage.

This session will share findings from the Black Grief Collaborative, an initiative co-led by Adam’s Purpose, Judi’s House, Denver Family Institute, University of Colorado partners, and community leaders.

Adam’s Purpose family, let’s show Shay some love as she prepares for this amazing opportunity!!!
