Big Brothers Big Sisters Miami Valley (BBBS) creates and supports one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. Since 1958, this organization has provided school-based mentoring and community-based mentoring programs for youths age 6 and up in Montgomery, Miami, Preble and Greene counties in and around Dayton, OH. When youth have a caring adult volunteer mentor, or

Big, they are more likely to stay in school, avoid substance use, and make positive choices in their life. They are more likely to graduate ready to join the workforce, enroll in college or pursue a skilled trade. A Big is more than just a friend to their Little – they are a role model. When you volunteer as a Big, you’ll be building a healthy and positive relationship with a young person, helping them develop the tools needed to succeed. You will be there to cheer their successes, support them through challenges, and help them reach their full potential. Child safety and youth protection is the first priority for BBBS. Prospective Bigs undergo a personal interview and comprehensive background check. Once a Big and Little are matched, BBBS staff provides supervision, coaching and advice to ensure positive outcomes. Volunteer mentoring is one of the most efficient and cost-effective prevention strategies available for young people today. As a non-profit organization, BBBS depends on support from caring individuals and businesses. Here are the top three ways to support their mission:

💚 Meet Amaris! 💚
We’re excited to welcome Amaris Larios, our new Match Support Specialist, to the Big Brothers Big Sisters Miami Valley team!
Born and raised in Kansas (yes, just like Dorothy! 🌪️), Amaris earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Washburn University before making the move to Ohio. Since then, she’s dedicated her work to helping build wraparound services and support for Ohio youth.
In her new role, Amaris is especially excited to help children and youth build confidence, feel comfortable in their own skin, and reach their full potential. 💚
✨ A few fun facts about Amaris:
🎨 She loves arts and crafts and organizing her art space while listening to music.
🌿 A perfect day off includes a nature day with her son or relaxing with family.
🍽️ Her local favorites are Blind Bob’s (especially the pita plate!) and Omega Music.
🎬 She loves horror, sci-fi and action movies.
🧀 Her guilty pleasure? Mozzarella sticks!
🎷 On her bucket list: attending an opera and visiting a jazz club in New York City.

BBBS Miami Valley will be at the 2026 Mental Health & Community Resource Fair tomorrow, September 3, from 10:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. at the Miami County Courthouse Plaza in Troy!
We love any opportunity to get out in the community, connect with local families, and spread the word about the power of mentorship. 💚

We’re so excited to welcome Holly as our new Fund Development and Administrative Coordinator! 🎉

A Dayton-area native, Holly will support our fundraising efforts, donor communications, events, community outreach, and much of the behind-the-scenes work that keeps our mission moving forward.

And it’s a mission that means a lot to her. 💚
“I believe that it only takes one person to encourage and genuinely believe in a child to change the trajectory of their life.”
We couldn’t agree more. 🥹

A few interesting facts: When Holly isn’t helping us create more opportunities for local kids, you’ll probably find her hiking the trails at Grant Park, kayaking, running, making something crafty, collecting rocks or seashells, or planning her next National Park adventure. She also doesn’t own a TV, AND held out on getting a smartphone as long as she possibly could. Bravo!🙌 One thing still on her bucket list? Participating in La Tomatina in Spain!

You don’t have to be extraordinary to make an extraordinary difference. 💚

Sometimes being a Big is as simple as showing up. Listening. Laughing together. Trying something new. And reminding a young person that there’s another person in their corner who believes in them.

A few hours a month can become something a Little remembers for a lifetime. Be there. Be a mentor. Be BIG.
