"Hello! I'm writing to say I had a wonderful experience with the crew that came to plant a tree for me. I don't know the names of workers, but they came to my home last Thursday (4/30), around 2:00pm. These guys went above and beyond any expectations I had. In fact, I kind of didn't have any expectations and started wondering if maybe I fell off the list, or if there was shortage of trees, and I ended up planting a butterfly bush in the spot I was thinking of for the tree. When the guys came out to my house, they noticed, then called AND texted me to ask about my preferences on the matter. I felt so bad about making the job more complicated for them, but they cheerfully offered to transplant the bush into the bucket (that the tree came in) for safe keeping and replanting later. Then, they also very neatly arranged the decorative stones I had all around the tree once it was planted. And on top of all that goodness, they sent me a picture through text, and I didn't even have to ask. These guys completely made my day, and my heart is warmed by their goodness and kindness toward me every time I see my new tree. Thank you ALL for being awesome, I could not have asked for a better experience...this has been the best!"

Brownfield News from the Montgomery County Land Bank

On May 14, 2026, Mike DeWine, Jim Tressel, and Lydia Mihalik announced $61 million in grants to help communities across 75 Ohio counties clean up contaminated properties and prepare them for redevelopment and new opportunities.

The Ohio Department of Development is awarding this funding through the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program. The announcement includes:
• $45.8 million for 84 cleanup and remediation projects
• $15.3 million for 76 assessment projects

The Montgomery County Land Bank was awarded $526,155 for two remediation projects, one in Dayton and one in Huber Heights.

We are especially proud of Heather Wendel, Program Manager of Environmental Services and Commercial Redevelopment, for her hard work and dedication in securing the funding needed to help make our county a safer, healthier place to live and invest.

At last month’s Ohio Land Bank Association conference in Toledo, the Montgomery County Land Bank was honored with the Project of the Year Award!

The award recognizes our innovative Welcome Home Ohio Initiative, which is bringing 40 new energy-efficient homes to three Dayton-area neighborhoods. These beautiful new homes are being offered at an affordable price point of approximately $170,000 and include a 15-year property tax abatement to help make homeownership more accessible for local families.
