Sweet Reminder!

❄️ URGENT WEATHER ALERT: Winter Storm Incoming! ❄️

Hello everyone! Please be aware that widespread wintry weather is expected to impact our area from this Friday through Sunday. We are looking at potential ice, extreme cold and hazardous travel conditions. 🌨️🧊

To keep you and your loved ones safe, please finish these preparations BEFORE Friday.

Here is your checklist:

🏠 HOME PROTECTION

🚰 Pipes: Cover outdoor faucets with foam or rags.

💧 Drip Faucets: Let indoor faucets drip slowly to prevent freezing/bursting.

🛑 Shut-Off Valve: Know exactly where your main water shut-off is located in case a pipe bursts.

🔥 Safety: Test your smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors.

🚿 Sprinklers: Turn them OFF to avoid creating dangerous ice patches on sidewalks.

🚗 CAR SAFETY

⛽ Gas Up: Keep your tank FULL. It keeps the fuel line from freezing and provides heat if you get stuck.

🚫 Stay Off Roads: Travel will be hazardous. If you don't have to drive, please stay home!

🎒 Emergency Kit: If you must drive, pack blankets, water, a flashlight and a phone charger.

🧹 Ice Scraper: Make sure your scraper/brush is in the car, not locked in the garage!

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 FAMILY, FRIENDS & PETS

🐾 Pets Inside: If it's too cold for you, it's too cold for them. Bring them in!

👴👵 Check In: Call elderly neighbors and relatives now to ensure they have heat and food.

📱 Charge Up: Charge all phones and power banks in case the power goes out.

💊 Meds: Ensure you have a 3-day supply of any necessary prescriptions.

🔦 FOOD & SHELTER

🥫 Stock Up: Have enough non-perishable food and water for at least 3 days (Friday-Sunday).

🕯️ Lights: Use flashlights or battery lanterns instead of candles to reduce fire risk.

🔥 Heat Safety: NEVER use a generator, grill, or gas stove indoors. Carbon Monoxide is deadly.

🧣 STAY WARM

🧥 Layers: Wear 3 layers (base, insulation, outer shell) to trap body heat.

🧤 Extremities: Cover your head, hands, and feet properly to prevent frostbite.

🚪 Drafts: Use towels to seal cracks under doors and keep the cold air out.
Stay warm and stay safe, friends! Please share this checklist so everyone can be prepared. 🙏💙

Must read by youngsters!

When approaching discussions for marriage in line with Islamic values, it’s helpful to ask questions that reflect both respect and sincerity while maintaining decorum. Here are some thoughtful ways to frame essential topics within an Islamic perspective:
1. Religious Commitment and Values

Could you share how you integrate your faith into daily life and your overall relationship with Allah?
How important is it for you that a couple grows together in their Deen (faith)? Are there specific ways you envision strengthening our faith as a family, such as praying together or engaging in Islamic study?
Are there any Islamic practices or values that are especially important to you within marriage?

2. Life Goals and Vision

What are some of your personal and professional goals, and how do you feel they align with your role as a spouse in Islam?
How do you envision balancing work and family life, considering the emphasis in Islam on fulfilling family responsibilities?
Do you have any specific thoughts on where you’d like to live or settle, and are you open to adapting if it’s best for the family?

3. Family Expectations and Roles

Islam places importance on family roles and cooperation. What are your thoughts on the roles and responsibilities of each spouse within marriage?
How do you typically approach relationships with extended family members, and what role do you believe they should play in our future life together?
How do you view the balance between family duties and mutual support in a marriage?

4. Financial Attitudes and Stability

Islam encourages prudence in finances. How do you generally approach financial management and spending habits?
Are there any financial goals you hope to work towards as a family, such as saving or charitable giving?
What are your thoughts on the shared responsibility of managing family finances in an Islamic household?

5. Children and Parenting

How do you feel about having children, insha’Allah, and how do you view the role of parents in Islam?
What are your views on providing Islamic education and instilling good character in children?
How do you see the division of responsibilities between parents in terms of upbringing and nurturing children?

6. Communication and Conflict Resolution

Islam encourages kindness and patience in relationships. How do you generally approach disagreements or difficult conversations?
What is your preferred way of communicating, especially in situations that may be challenging?
Are there any strategies you find beneficial for keeping harmony and maintaining open communication?

7. Personal Habits and Lifestyle Preferences

How do you prefer to spend your free time, and are there hobbies or interests that help you unwind or bring joy?
Are there any personal habits, like being health-conscious or keeping a tidy space, that are meaningful to you?
Do you have a preference for socializing or quieter family settings, keeping in mind Islamic guidelines for gatherings?

8. Expectations of Support and Companionship:
The Prophet (peace be upon him) emphasized kindness and companionship in marriage. What does companionship mean to you?

How do you envision supporting each other through life’s tests and changes, in light of Islamic principles?

Are there specific ways you prefer to express and receive support and appreciation?

9. Career and Education:
What are your career or educational goals, and how do you feel these align with Islamic priorities in marriage and family life?

How do you feel about balancing professional ambitions with the roles of a husband or wife, as well as family commitments?

Do you have any plans for further education or skill-building that you would like to discuss?

10. Views on Social Life and Privacy:
How do you view the balance between a family-centered life and social interactions, given Islamic guidance on privacy and modesty?

How do you approach personal boundaries and confidentiality within marriage?

Are there any preferences regarding social gatherings, family visits, or maintaining privacy that are especially important to you?

These questions encourage respectful, sincere conversation that aligns with Islamic teachings on marriage, helping to build a foundation based on mutual understanding, shared values, and adherence to faith.

Earn reward even after death:

"Whoever participates in building a house of worship for Allah, whether it be a mosque, earns continuous rewards as long as people pray therein."

"Whosoever donates a wheelchair to aid those in need, will continue to receive rewards for every person who benefits from it, even after their passing."

"The one who gifts a copy of the Qur'an to another, and that person reads from it or learns from it, will gain ongoing rewards for every letter recited, even after they have departed from this world."

"Whoever provides water for people to drink, such as by placing a water cooler in a public place, will continue to earn rewards for every sip taken by those who quench their thirst."

"Planting a tree that provides sustenance or shade to people and animals will result in continuous rewards for the planter, as long as it remains beneficial."

"Teaching or sharing beneficial knowledge, such as verses from the Qur'an, authentic hadiths, or supplications, will bring ongoing rewards to the one who imparts this knowledge, even beyond their earthly life."

One of the authentic Hadiths regarding fitra is narrated by Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), where he stated that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) enjoined the payment of one saa' (a measurement of volume) of dates or one saa' of barley as fitra on every Muslim, young and old, male and female, free and slave, among the Muslims. This was narrated by both Bukhari and Muslim in their collections of Hadith. This practice ensures that Muslims purify their wealth and share their blessings with those in need before praying Eid-ul-Fitr prayer.

Fitra can be given to those in need directly or through established charitable organizations. It's often distributed among the poor and needy members of the community to ensure they can also partake in the festivities of Eid-ul-Fitr. Mosques, Islamic charities, and community centers usually organize fitra collections and distribution to facilitate the process for believers.

In Houston, Zakat-ul-fitr is $10/person.

Islam encourages responsible financial management and emphasizes the importance of planning for the future. Saving money is generally seen as a prudent practice in Islam, as it provides financial security and stability for individuals and their families. Here are a few principles from Islamic teachings that support the concept of saving:

Avoidance of Extravagance: Islam encourages moderation and advises against excessive spending or wastefulness. Saving money allows individuals to avoid extravagance and live within their means.

Preparation for the Future: Islam teaches the importance of planning for the future and being prepared for unforeseen circumstances. Saving money enables individuals to build financial resilience and cope with emergencies or future needs.

Sadaqah (Charity): While saving for personal needs is important, Islam also emphasizes the value of giving in charity. Saving money enables individuals to fulfill their obligations towards charity and help those in need.

Avoidance of Dependency: Islam discourages dependence on others for financial support whenever possible. Saving money empowers individuals to be self-sufficient and less reliant on others for their needs.
