Mountain Maryland Search and Rescue is especially proud to see a familiar face featured as part of this wonderful project honoring our community’s veterans. 🇺🇸

The banner pictured on the left features MMSAR President and Co-Founder Chris Mullaney, recognizing his years of service in the United States Air Force.

Chris has dedicated many years of his life to serving others—first through his military service and continuing today through his leadership and volunteer work with Mountain Maryland Search and Rescue, as well as his career as an officer with the Allegany County Sheriff’s Department. We are incredibly proud to see his military service recognized through this project.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Let’s Beautify Cumberland!, the City of Cumberland, the Downtown Development Commission, and everyone involved in the Hometown Hero project. Projects like this provide a meaningful and visible way to honor the men and women who have served our country and ensure their contributions remain a proud part of our community.

Thank you, Chris, for your service—and thank you to all of our local veterans, past and present, who have answered the call to serve. 🇺🇸

We look forward to seeing the Hometown Hero banners along Queen City Drive and watching this project grow!

The idea of honoring our local veterans with pole banners is not new, but our Mayor Ray Morriss, Rock Cioni. City Council, Larry Jackson. Downtown Development Commission, Ed Mullaney of Let’s Beautify Cumberland!, and Becky McClarren have collaborated to return them to Cumberland. Our proposal is to install banners along Queen City Drive between the current American flag poles that line the three-quarter of a mile drive. A prototype has found a temporary home in the Charles L. “Bumps” Baker Memorial Garden, between the Blue Star and Gold Star Mothers Monuments at Veterans Park. As this project moves along, more information about the banners will be announced as to how you can honor our hometown veterans.

We are incredibly proud to share that our teammate and Vice President, Kayley, was recently honored with the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) Star of Life Award for her role in helping save the life of a 16-year-old drowning victim at Rocky Gap in August 2025.

As a paramedic, Kayley's skill, dedication, and professionalism contributed to a response that gave a young person a second chance at life. This prestigious award recognizes the very best of Maryland's EMS clinicians, and we could not be more proud to see her receive this well-deserved honor.

We also want to recognize the many EMS clinicians, first responders, and citizen responders whose combined efforts made this successful outcome possible.

Please join us in congratulating Kayley on this remarkable achievement and in recognizing everyone whose actions helped make this life-saving outcome possible.

Congratulations, Kayley—we are incredibly proud of you!
