The Commonwealth Center for Biomedical Excellence will be a major talent attraction tool for Northern Kentucky - a state-of-the-art facility bringing nearly 600 students, faculty and staff to the region's urban core and with easy access to the epicenter of the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky legal and medical communities. It is being built by the Northern Kentucky Port Authority and reached its first construction milestone last week.

Founded in 1896, Castellini Company is one of the oldest members in the produce industry and has been a staple in the Greater Cincinnati community since its founding.

Recently, the company celebrated its 130th anniversary with employees and several local leaders and elected officials including BE NKY President & CEO Lee Crume, Campbell County Judge/Executive Steve Pendery, and Wilder Mayor Valerie Jones.

ICYMI: Global Business Solutions (GBS), an IT and software solutions provider in Newport is returning to its roots in Covington.

Earlier this year, GBS announced the acquisition of the historic Wadsworth Electric Manufacturing building, which will serve as the company’s new headquarters. GBS plans to invest $6.8 million in this building, bringing 57 technical jobs to Covington.

Trades NKY, a non-profit that provides trades training to students, is expanding its presence into five new schools in Kenton County including Holmes, Turkey Foot, Twenhofel and Woodland middle schools and Summit View Academy. In May 2025, BE NKY Growth Partnership announced a two-year investment of $220,000 into this organization.

“This expansion represents another major step forward in building strong workforce pathways for students across Northern Kentucky,” said Phil Griffin, co-founder of TradesNKY. “We know there is tremendous demand for skilled trades professionals throughout our region, and these partnerships allow students to begin exploring those opportunities earlier through hands-on experiences.”

Lamarr Couser relocated from Maryland to Northern Kentucky as part of his role with DAV (Disabled American Veterans). Moving to Northern Kentucky wasn’t an easy decision for him and his wife, Valencia, but they quickly grew to love the area’s welcoming atmosphere.

Lamarr says Northern Kentucky is a place where local businesses and residents support one another and are invested in creating a vibrant and connected environment, ensuring the region stays successful.

Congratulations to our colleague Christine Russell, Executive Director of the NKY Port Authority, for being recognized as an Outstanding Woman of Northern Kentucky by the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce! Christine leads all aspects of the NKY Port, including development of the OneNKY Center and SparkHaus which opened in 2025.

The Purple People Bridge, which was partially closed for repair work to fix damage on the Cincinnati side, is fully reopened five days ahead of schedule!

This bridge is an important connector between the cities of Newport and Cincinnati and the cost of permanently repairing the bridge was offset by contributions from many local organizations, including BE NKY and the Northern Kentucky Port Authority.

A different kind of economy is taking root in Northern Kentucky — one built on discovery rather than delivery. Life sciences employment in Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties grew 161 percent over the past decade, and labor productivity in life sciences places it among the highest-value industries in the region.

The opening of LifeSciKY, a nonprofit life sciences incubator, in September 2025 gives early-stage life sciences companies access to more than $1 million in shared scientific equipment, private and shared lab facilities, technical expertise and a community of researchers and mentors.
