This week's all about Jay:

Tennis has proved an important nexus not once but twice in the direction that Jay’s life has taken. It was on the varsity tennis team at Eastern Illinois University that she met her husband-to-be John Iguchi. They married in 1973 and celebrated their 52nd anniversary in 2025. And after the Iguchis moved to Northern Kentucky in 2011, it was in a ladies' tennis league that Jay met Pauline Baumann. Jay, intrigued by Pauline’s tales about a place called Be Concerned, started as a volunteer there later in 2011. She’s still at it 15 years later. One more story about Jay and tennis: Jay’s uncle surprised Jay and John when he had a tennis court built in the backyard of their new home in Rockford, Ill. It didn’t take Jay long to turn her family’s good fortune into a community resource. “I began giving free tennis lessons on the court to people who couldn’t afford to pay for them,” she said.

Today's All About Jay:

A younger man
Jay met John Iguchi when both were members of the tennis team at Eastern Illinois University. They married in 1973, but Jay got a big surprise as the two were signing their marriage licenses: John was 4 years younger than her. “In Korean culture, women just don’t marry younger men,” Jay said. Wanting to avoid the uproar that revelation might have caused among their families, they agreed on a simple solution: Just don’t tell them! That strategy has worked for the Iguchis; they celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary in 2025.
