Changing Lives and Strengthening Neighborhoods since 1991.

Using volunteer labor, donations and subcontracted services, HONK builds new houses and rehabilitates older houses for homeownership opportunities among lower income working families. Client-family support staff provide homeownership counseling to facilitate successful and sustainable ownership.

From renter to homeowner in just 6 months! “Homeownership never seemed possible for me, but HONK made my dream a reality.”

When Gabrielle’s rent was set to increase, she knew she wanted her monthly investment to go toward something she could call her own — a place where she and her emotional support pets would have room to live, run, and play.

So she kept working toward her goal: building her career at Sam's Club, earning her degree, taking on additional hours, and making intentional choices about her future.

After connecting with HONK through her counselor at The Ion Center, Gabrielle began her homebuying journey. Just six months later, she was holding the keys to her first home in Covington, Kentucky. 🔑🏡✨

Her story is a beautiful reminder that homeownership can begin with a goal, a plan, and someone in your corner to help you navigate the path.

And Gabrielle has a message for anyone who feels like their dream is out of reach:

“Never give up on yourself, always strive to be a better person than you were yesterday, and don’t ever forget you are worthy of creating the life you desire.”

Welcome, Joe, our newest AmeriCorps Member!

Joe’s passion for HONK’s mission inspired him to apply through the AmeriCorps program. He previously worked as a counselor at Proctor Camp & Conference Center, where he started camping when he was just three years old. He returned every year since, eventually beginning his career there.

Now, Joe is bringing his communication skills, enthusiasm, and appreciation for teamwork to his new role with HONK. He’ll gain hands-on experience while assisting with construction projects, volunteer coordination, and contributing to the work that keeps our community strong.

We are thankful for our partnership with HHCK, which enables us to host AmeriCorps members, like Joe, under the statewide Homes for All program.

We recently gathered at Braxton Brewery to celebrate the retirement of Jim Broomall, who has been part of the HONK team for more than THREE DECADES! 🎉

Jim has been with us practically since the beginning. Throughout his career as Construction Assistant, he has helped make a difference for countless homes, families, volunteers, and our community. Whether he was painting trim, working alongside volunteers, or lending his skills wherever they were needed, Jim’s dedication and steady presence have been an important part of HONK’s story.

Jim’s career is also a reminder of something we value deeply at HONK: meaningful work can grow into a meaningful career. For more than 30 years, Jim brought his talents to work in service of our mission and the people of Northern Kentucky. His impact will continue long after his retirement.

Outside of HONK, Jim enjoys spending time with his wife, six children, and 13 grandchildren, along with cycling, yard work, and Sudoku. And as he begins this next chapter, Jim says he doesn’t have a bucket list. He simply enjoys life and wherever it takes him.

Jim, thank you for everything. We wish you all the best in retirement!

From “Could this really be possible?” to HOMEOWNER! 🏡🔑 Gabrielle officially closed and received the keys to her first home!

When she first discovered Housing Opportunities of Northern Kentucky through some online research, she admits it seemed almost too good to be true. But after learning more about HONK and working with our team, she knew she had found an opportunity worth pursuing.

Gabrielle has been putting in the hard work for this moment: building her career, earning her degree, taking on additional hours, and making intentional decisions about her future. With her rent set to increase, she knew she wanted her monthly investment to go toward something of her own. And now, that dream is a reality.
