Columbus Rotary Club The Rotary Club of Columbus SERVICE ABOVE SELF: THE STORY OF ROTARY. On the evening of February 23, 1905, he met with three friends to discuss his ideas.

In 1905, Paul Harris, a young lawyer in Chicago, experiencing the loneliness of a newcomer to a big city, wanted to become acquainted with individuals in other businesses and professions. From this beginning, they invited others to meet with them, and began to rotate the meetings among each othersโ€™ offices. From this โ€œrotationโ€ came the name Rotary. Their number soon became too great to meet in ea

ch othersโ€™ offices and a lunch club was formed. This initiative quickly spread beyond Chicago, and just 19 years later, on December 2, 1924 our first Columbus Rotary Club members met. Our club was officially chartered by Rotary International on January 20, 1925 and included 21 members representing Columbus area professions and businesses. Today, approximately 100 members from local businesses, non-profits, and government continue to grow the Rotary tradition by joining together for weekly (Monday) lunch meetings and fellowship. We also actively participate in Rotary efforts that make our community, our country, and our world a better place in which to live. Rotary is an organization of business and professional people pledged to uphold the highest ethical and moral standards. Rotarians believe that worldwide fellowship and peace can be achieved when business people unite with the Rotary motto of "Service Above Self." Rotary activities exemplify the charity and sacrifice that one would expect from people who believe that they have a responsibility to help others. Welcome to The Columbus Rotary Club, a group of people with a rich tradition of community service and leadership for Columbus, Indiana.

โค๏ธ Yesterday at Rotary, we had the privilege of hearing from Mars Fulton with the American Red Cross Southeast Indiana Chapter about the incredible work of their Disaster Action Team (DAT).

One of the biggest takeaways was that disasters aren't just large-scale national eventsโ€”they happen right here in our own communities every day. Home fires, storms, flooding, and other emergencies often leave families in immediate need of shelter, food, clothing, medications, and emotional support.

The Red Cross Disaster Action Team is made up primarily of volunteers who are on call 24/7/365 to respond with compassion and practical help when those moments occur.

It was also eye-opening to learn that the Southeast Indiana Chapter has already responded to hundreds of local incidents this fiscal year, including multiple calls in Bartholomew, Johnson, Shelby, Decatur, Brown, Jackson, and Jennings counties.

Thank you, Mars, for sharing how the American Red Cross is making a difference and for reminding us that just a few hours of volunteering each month can have a life-changing impact on our neighbors.

โค๏ธ We appreciate all those who serve our communities with such dedication and compassion.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Happy Flag Day from the Columbus Rotary Club! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Today we celebrate a symbol that has represented our nation's history, hope, and resilience for generations.

The American flag reminds us that while we may come from different backgrounds and perspectives, we are united by a shared commitment to building stronger communities and serving one another.

As Rotarians, we proudly live out the ideal of Service Above Selfโ€”working together to make a positive difference right here in our community and around the world.

On this Flag Day, may we remember not only what our flag stands for, but also our responsibility to be good neighbors, compassionate leaders, and faithful stewards of the opportunities we've been given.

Wishing everyone a meaningful and patriotic Flag Day. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธโค๏ธ๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸRotary Community Service in Action!

This week, members of the Columbus Rotary Club had the opportunity to support the Treatment and Support Center (TASC) through our latest community service project.

Thanks to the generosity of our Rotary members, we collected much-needed hygiene products and clothing items that will directly benefit individuals working toward recovery and rebuilding their lives. These simple necessities help remove barriers, restore dignity, and provide encouragement during a critical season of healing.

On Monday, we were honored to present these donations to Amanda M. Lang, Practice Manager of the Treatment and Support Center, and Dr. Lee Kiser, who shared with us the impact these items will have on the clients they serve.

Thank you to everyone who donated and helped make this project a success. Together, we are strengthening our community and living out Rotary's motto of Service Above Self.

Thank you to Amanda M. Lang, Practice Manager of the Treatment and Support Center (TASC), and Rotarian, Dr. Lee Kiser for sharing with our Rotary Club about the important work being done to support individuals on their recovery journey.

TASC provides comprehensive, person-centered treatment and support services for those struggling with substance use disorders, helping individuals rebuild their lives through treatment, counseling, peer support, case management, and recovery resources.

One message that stood out was that recovery is about more than overcoming addictionโ€”it is about restoring hope, dignity, confidence, and opportunity.

We also learned about practical ways our community can help, including donations of hygiene products and clothing that remove barriers and allow individuals to focus on healing and recovery.

Thank you, Amanda and Dr. Kiser, for your dedication to serving our community and for reminding us that lasting recovery is possible when people are supported, valued, and given hope.
