Columbus Rotary Club

Columbus Rotary Club The Rotary Club of Columbus SERVICE ABOVE SELF: THE STORY OF ROTARY. On the evening of February 23, 1905, he met with three friends to discuss his ideas.

In 1905, Paul Harris, a young lawyer in Chicago, experiencing the loneliness of a newcomer to a big city, wanted to become acquainted with individuals in other businesses and professions. From this beginning, they invited others to meet with them, and began to rotate the meetings among each others’ offices. From this “rotation” came the name Rotary. Their number soon became too great to meet in ea

ch others’ offices and a lunch club was formed. This initiative quickly spread beyond Chicago, and just 19 years later, on December 2, 1924 our first Columbus Rotary Club members met. Our club was officially chartered by Rotary International on January 20, 1925 and included 21 members representing Columbus area professions and businesses. Today, approximately 100 members from local businesses, non-profits, and government continue to grow the Rotary tradition by joining together for weekly (Monday) lunch meetings and fellowship. We also actively participate in Rotary efforts that make our community, our country, and our world a better place in which to live. Rotary is an organization of business and professional people pledged to uphold the highest ethical and moral standards. Rotarians believe that worldwide fellowship and peace can be achieved when business people unite with the Rotary motto of "Service Above Self." Rotary activities exemplify the charity and sacrifice that one would expect from people who believe that they have a responsibility to help others. Welcome to The Columbus Rotary Club, a group of people with a rich tradition of community service and leadership for Columbus, Indiana.

✨ Audacity of Hope Day ✨

Did you know that June 4 is Audacity of Hope Day?

This day was created to recognize something powerful: hope is not passive. Hope takes courage. Hope dares to believe that tomorrow can be better than today, even when circumstances suggest otherwise.

The phrase "the audacity of hope" speaks to the bold decision to keep believing, keep serving, and keep investing in people and communities. It reminds us that lasting change begins when someone has the courage to envision a better future and then takes action to help create it.

That message aligns beautifully with the mission of Rotary.
Every time Rotarians provide clean water, support education, fight disease, mentor young leaders, feed families, or invest in local community projects, they are putting hope into action. Rotary is built on the belief that ordinary people can come together to make an extraordinary difference.

Hope is more than a feeling—it is service, compassion, and action.
Today, on Audacity of Hope Day, let's celebrate those who choose to see possibilities instead of obstacles and who work every day to make their communities stronger.

💙 The future belongs to those who have the audacity to hope—and the willingness to serve.

What is the Paul Harris Society?

The Paul Harris Society recognizes Rotary members and friends who choose to make a lasting impact through an ongoing commitment to The Rotary Foundation. Members pledge to contribute $1,000 each year, helping Rotary continue changing lives locally and around the world.

Why become part of the Paul Harris Society?
• It’s a way to create sustainable impact year after year
• It connects you with others passionate about service
• It helps Rotary respond quickly to needs around the world
• It reflects a commitment to “Service Above Self” in action

The Paul Harris Society isn’t just about giving financially — it’s about believing that ordinary people, working together consistently, can create extraordinary change.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. 🇺🇸

Memorial Day is more than the unofficial start of summer — it is a day of gratitude, reflection, and remembrance for those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy every day.

As Rotarians, service is at the heart of what we do. Today, we recognize those whose service went far beyond themselves.

Wishing you a meaningful Memorial Day as we remember our fallen heroes and the families who carry their legacy forward. ❤️🤍💙
