The Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) at Thrive is now in its 35th year of operation.
This program provides opportunities for individuals age 55
and up to remain active and engaged outside their home by
volunteering to assist students who need extra help at Head Start, public, and faith-based schools. Volunteers whose modified income is less than 200 percent of the federal poverty level receive a tax-free stipend for their service, and all volunteers receive reimbursement for mileage or bus passes.
Currently 38 volunteers (half over age 80) serve in two Head Start centers and 15 elementary schools throughout the Thrive service area.
We are always looking for new volunteers who enjoy working with children of all ages, regardless of income level. For more information, email [email protected]
Through mentoring and tutoring our Classroom Grandparent program helps children develop foundations for success in school and in life.
