Dear Friends, Supporters, Partners, and Members,
We are writing to share an important update about Renewal Cafe Columbus.
After careful consideration and many months of discussion, our Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to pause operations at our current location, effective August 31, 2026.
This decision was not made lightly. The primary reason for this transition is that we will no longer have access to our current facility. With new ownership of the property, we have been unable to reach an agreement that would allow Renewal Cafe to continue operating in the space. While we explored several possibilities to remain at the location or continue on a more limited schedule, none proved to be feasible. Given these circumstances, the Board concluded that pausing operations is the most responsible course of action while we evaluate future opportunities.
With this chapter is coming to a close, we remain deeply grateful for everything that has been accomplished together.
Since opening our doors almost 3 years ago, Renewal Cafe has provided a welcoming community for individuals experiencing recovery, loneliness, homelessness, mental health challenges, and other life struggles—as well as anyone simply looking for a safe, welcoming place to gather. Countless meals have been shared, friendships have formed, lives have been encouraged, and people have found acceptance, hope, and belonging. None of this would have been possible without the generosity and dedication of our volunteers, donors, churches, community partners, and members.
We are especially proud that our Renewal Cafe continued operating for more than a year as an entirely volunteer-run organization. That accomplishment demonstrates what a committed community can achieve and shows that a safe, welcoming café can be sustained with dedicated volunteers and modest financial resources.
To every person who prepared a meal, donated supplies, volunteered your time, offered financial support, prayed for us, or simply welcomed someone with kindness—thank you. Your contributions have made a lasting difference in the lives of many people throughout our community.
Although daily café operations will pause, the nonprofit organization itself will remain in existence. The Board intends to take time to evaluate what we have learned, explore new partnerships, identify sustainable funding opportunities, and consider new models for serving our community. We believe the need for a place of belonging, connection, and support continues to exist, and we remain hopeful that Renewal Cafe can return in a new form when the right opportunity presents itself.
Our final day of operations at 1412 Sycamore Street will be Sunday, August 30, 2026. We encourage everyone who has been part of the Renewal Café family to stop by during our remaining weeks as we celebrate what has been accomplished together.
Thank you for believing in our mission and for walking alongside us during this journey. While this is a difficult moment, we do not see it as the end of the story. We hope to stay connected with all of you as we discern what comes next.
