📣Calling all do-gooders! 📣

Our 🌈 Pride Garden 🌈 needs a good jush and we need your help.

Over the last year, the Pride Garden at the center has become completely covered in bind w**d and other unwanted plants in the area. Visitors can no longer experience the joys of seeing a rainbow diversity of plants surrounding Todd McGrain's Passenger Pigeon sculpture, commemorating the life of the last know wild bird of its species.

With support from Green Columbus , we want to bring the rainbow back to the garden.

📅Join us on Tuesday, June 23rd, from 9:00 - 11:30 AM

Meet the Orchard Oriole, the smallest of North America’s orioles.

🧡 Hopping among scattered trees, male Orchard Orioles sing a whistled, chattering song to attract yellow-green females. Listen for harsh churrs and chatters interspersed with the sweet notes to help distinguish this species.

💛 Be sure to look for them during the height of summer, as these visitors tend to leave their breeding grounds earlier than many other migrants.

🧡 Orchard Orioles build hanging, pouchlike nests during their brief breeding season before migrating back to Central America as early as mid-July!

We will start the walk with a brief discussion about the importance of inclusion in outdoor spaces before making our way on our walk. Bring your 🌈 PRIDE 🌈(think bright colors, eco-friendly glitter, bold wings, or come as your wonderful self.) Participants will get a nifty "Let's Go Birding Together" sticker and have the oppourtunity to go home with their very own "Let's Go Birding Together" shirt!

Let's Go Birding Together walks are for everyone who loves birds and the outdoors. We welcome those who identify as LGBTQIA2S+, allies, families, and anyone who wants to enjoy an outdoor experience that is inclusive.

Why do we do this? Because the outdoors has not always been a welcoming place for LGBTQ+ people and Audubon wants help change that.

For the last five years, Grange Insurance Audubon Center has been a recipient of the Greater Columbus Arts Council Grants, helping to connect the Columbus community to both nature and the arts. We wanted to offer a huge "Thank You," to Greater Columbus Arts Council for their continued support of Art at Audubon!

It's because of that we are able to bring fun events for the whole family to the center, such as:

🎨 Free public art exhibitions and installations
🖌️Creative workshops that inspire future artists
🎼 A summer concert series where people come together over unique performances
🖍️Hosting a resident artist at the center to share their love for the arts with guests
🌟 and so much more!

an inclusive and inspiring community & we are proud to play our part in building that network. Visit the Grange Insurance Audubon Center to experience Art at Audubon!

Happy Migration Monday! Meet the Swainson’s Thrush, a species of shy but vocal birds that skulk in the shadows of their generally dark forest-interior habitat.

🤍 During the peak of migration, the Swainson's Thrush can be found in woodlots and parks, slipping into fruiting trees to pluck berries.

🤎 Like other brown thrushes, Swainson's Thrush migrates mostly at night, and their distinctive call notes can be heard from overhead on clear nights during spring and fall.

🤍 The widespread eastern and northern form is often called “Olive-backed Thrush.” Those that breed in the Pacific states are often called the “Russet-backed Thrush” as they are rusty-brown above, with thinner, paler eyerings and medium-brown chest spotting.
