"The NYOTA program transformed my leadership."

Meet Myriam Raissa Lwanzo, 2026 NYOTA graduate—who learned that real leadership isn't about doing everything yourself. It's about knowing when to let go, and who to trust.

Through NYOTA, Myriam built the confidence to delegate, collaborate, and lead projects that are stronger because they're shared. Today, she's not just leading—she's ready for whatever comes next.

This is what investing in women builds: leaders who lift others as they rise.

One woman. Two crises. One powerful story.

When Marie Bulieni joined the NYOTA Leadership Program in 2024, she was a 10-year child protection veteran—stuck behind a desk, afraid to ask for more.

She asked.

She ended up face-to-face with leaders of armed groups, interviewing children held captive, and facilitating their release.

Now, as Ebola spreads through her community in Beni, DRC, she's using those same skills to fight misinformation and keep her neighbors safe.

"I considered all the knowledge acquired from NYOTA as my weapon."

Marie isn't an outlier. She's the pattern. 49 NYOTA graduates have already reached more than 9,000 lives—and 22 more women just crossed the graduation stage.

96% completion. Three years running.

But this isn't just about the women who finished NYOTA—it's about everyone their progress touches. Their children. Their neighbors. Their communities.

When a woman leads, she doesn't lead alone. The ripple reaches everyone around her.

That's the real impact of NYOTA. And this Friday we celebrate the 2026 cohort as they graduate and see them continue being a light in their community.

NYOTA women are building networks, launching projects, and leading in Beni, DRC.

The 22 women of the 2026 cohort are working across five kinds of change: advocacy, health and survivor support, community organizing, girls' leadership, and entrepreneurship/economic empowerment.

One NYOTA woman is scaling a soap-making business into a regional brand. Another is opening a support center for teen mothers and war survivors. A third is pushing local legislators to reform property rights so widows aren't left with nothing when their husbands die.

Different paths. Same conviction: Women lead change that benefits others.

You're part of this work, too.

One hour, every Saturday. What can that change?

What do soap-making, a girls' leadership club, and a widows' property rights campaign have in common?

They're all led by 2026 NYOTA women.

They might never have met.
Different ages. Different professions. Different neighborhoods in Beni.
Then NYOTA brought Marie and Jeannette into the same room — and something beyond a training program started to grow. Peer learning has a way of doing that. Women who came for leadership skills leave with something just as lasting: each other.
In this photo, they're exchanging a small gifts to celebrate a day devoted to physical and mental health. A small thing. But it's also a picture of what NYOTA is really about: women leaders investing in women leaders, cheering each other on.
This is peer learning in action — and it's one more reason we believe in what's happening in Beni, DRC.

When women gather, everything changes.

Women deserve a seat at the table. Not as an exception, but as the standard. Because when women lead, communities thrive, families rise, and the future gets brighter—not just for women, but for everyone.

This is what we're witnessing through the NYOTA Leadership Program: women in Beni stepping into leadership and proving, once again, that the world is better when they're in the room.

The research is clear: community trust—especially in women leaders—is one of the most effective tools we have for containing a health crisis.

NYOTA graduates are healthcare workers. Community organizers. Advocates. They are the infrastructure that holds when everything is on the line.

Every donation builds that leadership. Every share spreads that truth.
