📌 SCDNR has officially concluded its inquiry into deer hunting with dogs and will forward its final report to the General Assembly. The current laws remain in place, and enforcement continues as normal. We appreciate everyone who showed up, spoke up, and helped ensure our community’s voice was part of the record.

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) appreciates the hunters, landowners, conservationists, and other citizens who participated in the Department’s public hearings and information-gathering process concerning hunting deer with dogs.

SCDNR undertook this process to better understand the concerns surrounding the issue and to gather information and data to inform the SCDNR Board and General Assembly.

The information received indicates that the primary concerns involve private property rights, hunting traditions, enforcement, changing land use, and relationships between landowners and hunters, rather than biological or natural resource management concerns. Because potential changes addressing these concerns would require legislative action, further consideration of the issue is appropriately left to the General Assembly.

Accordingly, SCDNR will immediately conclude its inquiries, meetings, and surveys and maintain a summary of the information received. Once the SCDNR Board approves a final report, it will be provided to the General Assembly. The existing statutory framework remains in place, and SCDNR will continue to enforce existing laws within its authority.

Our SCSDA Political Action Committee (PAC) exists for one purpose — to make sure the voices of South Carolina’s sporting‑dog community are heard where it matters most: the State House.

The PAC supports issue‑based advocacy for sporting‑dog owners across the state.

🐾 – Thank You, Aiken Hounds!

Today we celebrate Aiken Hounds as they enter their third year as an Affiliate Member of the South Carolina Sporting Dog Association.

Founded in 1914, Aiken Hounds is one of the most historic sporting organizations in the country. Formally recognized by the Masters of Foxhounds Association in 1916, they hold the distinction of being America’s oldest drag hunt — a tradition that blends horsemanship, hound work, and community in a way few organizations can match.

Their meets run through the iconic Hitchcock Woods, one of the largest urban forests in the nation. Riders, hounds, staff, landowners, and supporters come together to preserve a sporting culture that has shaped Aiken for generations. Their events, hound walks, trail rides, and community gatherings continue to introduce new people to the sport while honoring the etiquette, stewardship, and respect that define the hunting tradition.

Aiken Hounds is not just a hunt — it is a community institution. Their commitment to land conservation, responsible sporting practices, and the education of new riders and supporters makes them a vital part of South Carolina’s sporting landscape. We are proud to have them standing with us again this year.

Today we’re proud to welcome GUINEA POND HUNTING CLUB as our newest Platinum Club Member! 🎉

What began in the 1970s as a small, family- and community-oriented dog hunting club has grown into a 10,000-acre hunting club(located in and around Lamar) rooted in family, faith, friendship, tradition, and a deep love for the outdoors.

Officially established as Guinea Pond Hunting Club in 2006, they continue to preserve generations of tradition while promoting responsible land management, conservation, and ethical hunting practices.

Their commitment to family, community, and responsible dog hunting is exactly what makes our sporting dog community so strong.

One Community. One Heritage. 🤝🦌

We’ve learned a LOT over the past month listening to landowners at public meetings. Some of their experiences were tough to hear — because they don’t reflect who we are or what dog hunting stands for.

The SCSDA lives by a Code of Ethics, and we hope every hunter in South Carolina carries those values into the woods this season.

Deer season opens Saturday, and this is our moment.
This isn’t dog hunters vs. still hunters.
This isn’t hunters vs. landowners.
We’re all South Carolinians who love the hunt.

Let’s give each other the chance to enjoy it.
Let’s work with our neighbors.
Let’s make this season a fresh start.

Let’s make an extra effort this season to strengthen relationships. Reach out to your neighbors. Check in. Communicate. A simple conversation can prevent a problem before it starts.

🚨 Transparency Matters.

SCDNR’s OWN statement now clarifies that these public meetings were NOT requested by the South Carolina General Assembly and are NOT being conducted in response to pending legislation.

The Department now explains that this process originated from discussions and requests within SCDNR’s own Board advisory committee process.

Those details matter. The public deserves clear and accurate information about how this process started and why these meetings are taking place.

We will continue to STAND GUARD, ask questions, and ensure South Carolina sportsmen and women understand exactly what is happening. 🦌🐕🇺🇸

Transparency matters. Facts matter. And the sporting-dog community is paying attention.
