⚠️ Trafficking survivors often deal with a co-occurring struggle: substance dependency that was never their choice.

Traffickers frequently introduce or deepen a victim's drug use on purpose — it creates dependency, makes leaving harder, and gives the trafficker leverage. This isn't a character flaw in survivors. It's a calculated control tactic.

That's why our advocacy is trauma-informed, not judgment-based. Survivors don't need to have it all figured out to walk through our door.

Ask an Advocate: "Will I have to talk to police to get help?"

No. Never as a condition of getting help from us.

We know this fear runs deep — especially if you have an open warrant, an immigration concern, or a history that makes police feel like the last people you'd trust. That fear is valid, and it stops people from reaching out every single day.

Here's the truth: Lotus Foundation's services are not contingent on reporting to law enforcement. You can access advocacy, case management, and support without ever talking to police. If you ever choose to report, we can walk through that with you — but it will always be your choice, on your timeline, or not at all.

Your safety and your privacy come first. Full stop.

💜 What a beautiful morning we had last Saturday at the Community Unites Against Violence 5k!

Thank you to Kingdom Builders Family Life Center for putting together such a meaningful event — bringing families together for a 5K in support of ending domestic and s*xual violence in our community. We were honored to be part of it, connect with neighbors, and stand alongside so many other organizations doing this work every day. (Also, how gorgeous is Nancy Lewis Park?! 😍)

Community events like this remind us that ending violence in all its forms — including human trafficking — takes all of us, together.

🔒 Every survivor who works with Lotus Foundation is protected by confidentiality — and that's not a small detail, it's the whole foundation.

Trust takes time to earn, especially for someone who has been controlled, watched, or betrayed by people who were supposed to protect them. Confidentiality means a survivor decides who knows their story, when, and how much.

Our advocates are certified Confidential Victim Advocates under Colorado law — meaning what's shared with us stays protected. That's what makes real healing possible.

Let's talk about grooming.

Grooming is often the quiet first step toward trafficking — and it rarely looks dangerous at first.

It can look like:
🔹 Excessive attention, gifts, or flattery from someone older or in a position of trust
🔹 Isolating someone from friends and family, little by little
🔹 Creating secrecy — "this is just between us"
🔹 Slowly pushing boundaries and testing what's tolerated

Grooming works because it feels like closeness before it feels like control. The earlier it's recognized, the more room there is to intervene.

If something feels off in a relationship you're seeing from the outside, it's okay to ask questions. It's okay to say something.

For survivors on a healing journey, rest isn't a luxury — it's part of reclaiming a body and mind that trafficking tried to control. Choosing when to slow down, breathe, or simply do nothing is its own quiet act of freedom.

If you're a survivor reading this: you don't have to earn rest. It's yours.

If you're a supporter: consider this your reminder too. Advocacy work is heavy — take the moment you need today.

A few small ways to pause:
🌸 Step outside and notice the sunlight
🌸 Put your phone down for 10 minutes
🌸 Make a warm drink and just sit with it
