Mattilyn brings positivity, professionalism, and a wonderful attitude to our team every day. Our very first Learn, Grow, Eat, & GO! Camp took place this past week, and it was a blast! Thank you to all of the wonderful campers who joined us and helped make this camp such a fun and memorable experience! 🎉🥕🌸

Throughout the week, campers learned about gardening, healthy eating, and the importance of making positive lifestyle choices, all while having fun, making new friends, and participating in hands-on activities. We collected 139 lbs. of cans and other nonperishable food items for the Texas A&M 12th Can food pantry and harvested 16 lbs. of fresh vegetables for the Brazos Valley Food Bank. At the end of the week, each camper earned their JMG Learn, Grow, Eat, & GO! Certificate.

We want to give a special thank you to Nelson Plant Food, Brookshire Brothers, Creekside Nursery, Ms. Flora Williams, Dr. Nesbitt, Dr. Zhen, and Mr. Hotz for helping make this camp possible. We are so grateful for their support!

In this hands-on Horticulture STEM Teacher Workshop session, educators will collect insects, examine key features used in classification, and learn how to use a dichotomous key to identify specimens. Plus, participants will leave with classroom-ready entomology activities to engage their students in STEM learning.

JMG NATIONAL GROUP OF THE MONTH: JUNE 2026 🪴
Congratulations to Founders Fine Arts Academy from Weatherford, TX! 🎉
Grades/Number of students in JMG Group: 19 students, Grades 6th through 11th, with lower elementary joining in occasionally
Group Leader: Debbie Cole
JMG Curriculum Utilized: Junior Master Gardener Handbook and Learn, Grow, Eat, & GO! (LGEG)
Gardens include: Vegetables, herbs, fruit, as well as flowering plants & other beautification projects
Memorable or favorite experiences: Since starting the JMG program, students have become enthusiastic about gardening and take greater pride in their work both in the garden and classroom. One student summed it up best after a workday, saying, “It looks very nice. I am proud of it.” As their teacher and JMG leader, I was proud as well. The community has also noticed, with many passersby commenting on how beautiful the yard looks now.
Service Learning: With support from a local master gardener grant, we transformed a weedy patch beside the school into a thriving garden filled with fruits, vegetables, and flowers. Students are growing produce not only for the school, but also to support a farmstand and donate to local food pantries.
How the garden program benefits our kids: Working in the garden has helped students build confidence, leadership skills, and healthier habits. Some students who once struggled academically are now earning A’s and B’s and taking on leadership roles. Students were especially excited by our large harvest of turnips and chard, even creating recipes after trying the vegetables they grew themselves. Older students now mentor younger ones, who are eager to join JMG as well, and we hope to create a garden space for them in the future.
We are so proud of these students!!! 👏👏
