The Ladies of Leadership are proud to recognize Chaka Powell, a woman whose life exemplifies servant leadership, faith, and community impact.

A graduate of the University of Kentucky, Chaka currently serves as Community Engagement Director for Aftab Pureval, where she works tirelessly to build meaningful connections between residents and local government. Her leadership experience also includes influential roles with I Hear Music, Inc. and Visit Cincy.

Chaka's commitment to service has earned her numerous honors, including recognition as one of Who's Who in Black Cincinnati's Most Influential, a graduate of the African American Leadership Development Program (Class 27), and a YWCA Rising Star.

Above all, Chaka is a woman of faith who leads with grace, purpose, and compassion. Inspired daily by her husband and two daughters, she continues to pour into others and make a lasting difference in the lives of those around her.

Ladies of Leadership is honored to welcome Mary E. Mitchell as the Emcee for our 4th Annual Awards Fundraiser on June 20, 2026!

A Cincinnati native, accomplished educator, leadership coach, consultant, and organizational development leader, Mary brings more than 25 years of experience developing leaders, strengthening organizations, and empowering communities. As the Founder of M&M Leadership Consulting, Program Director with New Leaders, Adjunct Faculty Member at Bank Street College of Education, and President of the Cincinnati Queen City Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Mary has dedicated her life to advancing leadership excellence, educational equity, and opportunities for youth.

Her passion for developing strong leaders and creating lasting impact makes her the perfect person to help guide us through this special celebration as we honor six remarkable women who are changing lives throughout our community.

For more than 33 years, Dawn Bailey has dedicated her life to serving students, families, and communities throughout the Greater Cincinnati area. As the proud principal of Lincoln Heights Elementary School for the past 11 years, she has helped transform the school into an award-winning institution known for academic excellence, family engagement, and a welcoming culture for all.

From the classroom to the principal’s office, Dawn's passion for education, leadership, and community impact has touched countless lives. As she prepares to conclude an incredible career in education, her legacy of service will continue through her work with the Lincoln Heights community and beyond.

We are incredibly honored, grateful, and humbled to be selected by Greater Cincinnati Foundation as a recipient of the Boots on the Ground Grant.

On behalf of everyone at Ladies of Leadership, thank you for believing in our mission and investing in the lives of the girls and families we serve throughout our community.

For 19 years, Ladies of Leadership has remained committed to empowering, mentoring, and equipping young people with the tools they need to succeed academically, socially, emotionally, and professionally. Since 2007, we have positively impacted more than 12,000 girls and their families through mentorship, leadership development, prevention programming, life-skills training, college and career exposure, and community engagement opportunities.

Receiving this funding is more than a grant—it is an investment in hope, opportunity, and the future of our young people. The Boots on the Ground Grant will help us continue providing safe spaces, trusted mentors, leadership experiences, and transformative programming that empowers youth to discover their purpose, build confidence, and become leaders in their schools, families, and communities.

We recognize that meaningful change happens when organizations, funders, and communities work together.
