Thanks to all who have followed and supported our efforts to pass Home for Good (HB624) in the Illinois General Assembly.
Unfortunately, Home for Good was not funded this session.
But we are not done.
The Home for Good Coalition stands strong. The work we did over the past five months has resulted in more support than ever before and an even stronger conviction that we can and will pass this legislation to expand housing for people coming home from Illinois prisons.
Thanks to all Coalition members, including our organizing partners at The Illinois Coalition to End Permanent Punishments.

An urgent update from the Home for Good Coalition.
Three months ago the Coalition rallied together with joy and conviction (see below) to launch a campaign to pass Home for Good (HB624) - smart, compassionate policy that would expand housing access for people leaving Illinois prisons.
We are half-way there - approved by the House and pending in the Senate.
But we have just 72 hours left to bring this to victory.
We need your help now. Please follow this link and tell your lawmaker everyone deserves a home -https://homeforgoodillinois.com/letters/

The official deadline is May 31st — but our intel says Saturday may be the real last day to get this across the finish line.
That means the next few days matter more than ever❗️
Today, as part of our Digital Day of Action, we need every supporter to remind Illinois Senators and budgeteers to act now.

For the last year and a half, people from every corner of Illinois have been coming together in Springfield to fight for one thing: safe, stable housing for people coming home.
The Home For Good coalition now stretches across 86 cities in 26 counties — from Chicago to Rockford to Southern Illinois and everywhere in between. This movement is proof that housing insecurity after incarceration is not just a “Chicago issue” or a problem facing one demographic. It impacts families in every region, every community, and every zip code across our state.
We’ve seen directly that no matter where someone lives, coming home without housing creates barriers to stability, employment, reunification, and safety. That’s why organizers, impacted people, service providers, faith leaders, and advocates from all across Illinois have united behind Home For Good.
This coalition is broad because the problem is broad. And together, we’re building a statewide movement to make sure everyone has a real chance to come home and stay home.
Illinois is ready for Home For Good❗️

People leaving prison in Illinois are often sent out with just $15-$25 and a train ticket, and sometimes not even that. No family to call. No money for food. No place to sleep. Just a bus or train ride back into the same struggles they fought to escape.
When we release people with no plan and no support, we shouldn't be surprised when homelessness and desperation follow. That's not a second chance, it's a setup to fail. Illinois can do better.
Home for Good would make sure every person leaving prison has a housing plan before they walk out the door. Because everyone deserves a real chance to rebuild their life, come home safely, and stay Home for Good!

That plan is Home for Good (HB624), smart and compassionate policy that would create and support opportunity and safety for all.
HB624 has passed the Illinois House and we now have 4 days to finish the job and get it through the Illinois General Assembly.
