Ballet 5:8 reimagines the haunting Mexican legend of La Llorona through breathtaking dance and a deeply human lens. Choreographed by Julianna Rubio Slager, the ballet follows María, a young mother facing postpartum depression, isolation, and the struggle to be understood. With Hopeful Beginnings serving as Mental Health Partner, the performance invites conversation around motherhood, culture, compassion, and hope. Audiences are encouraged to come in costume for the Halloween afternoon performance, with one costume-contest winner receiving a backstage photo experience with members of the cast.

See Chicago Dance is thrilled to announce that Sones de Mexico Ensemble will perform live at the 2026 BOLD IMPACT Gala, bringing the vibrant sounds and traditions of Mexican folk music to this year’s celebration.

Formed in Chicago’s historic Pilsen neighborhood in 1994, Sones de México Ensemble is one of the country’s leading organizations dedicated to Mexican folk and traditional music. For more than 30 years, the award-winning ensemble has shared the rich diversity of Mexican musical traditions through performances, education, and cross-cultural collaboration.
