As the deadly attacks of HR1 continue to go into effect and are felt by families across the state, ILRA members will return to Springfield for Veto Session this fall and a potential lame duck session in the new year to ensure all Illinoisans have the resources they need to thrive. Illinois still has one of the most unequal tax structures in the country, and we remain committed to long-term solutions that ensure large corporations, big tech, and the wealthiest residents pay their fair share of taxes to fully fund services and shift the burden off low- and middle-income families.

In 2026, members of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights organized to win a platform rooted in dignity and respect for all residents of our state.

As this spring session comes to a close, ICIRR members celebrate meaningful policy and budget wins for our communities, but are disappointed that the final budget does not include multiple options on the table to Trump-proof Illinois. By failing to be bold this session, our state has put families and vital programs at risk.

ICIRR members will continue working with our elected allies to move the General Assembly as a whole to take the bold stances needed to protect our neighbors, ensure all families have what they need to thrive, and guard against the attacks from the Trump administration against communities across Illinois!

Today ICIRR members joined the Illinois Revenue Alliance (ILRA) and nearly 1,000 grassroots leaders for a day of action in Springfield, where we demanded the General Assembly pass a state budget that meets the needs of ALL people in Illinois by TAXING THE RICH!

From a press conference in the morning, to a lemonade stand for revenue, to a rally and action inside the state capital, we made it clear that we won’t allow working class people and families to carry the burden of funding critical resources while the ultra rich receive tax breaks.

ICIRR members were at the state capital today advocating for Progressive Revenue solutions with the Illinois Revenue Alliance (ILRA). The Illinois General Assembly is currently negotiating the state budget, and as part of ILRA, ICIRR demands that IL pass our proposed solutions which tax the mega-rich and large corporations in order to generate state revenue that funds critical programs for our communities. Lynn, POWER PAC IL Co-chair Emeritus, and ICIRR member, worked a pop-up lemonade stand at the capital building to bring attention to the ILRA revenue proposals and why we must include these proposals in this year’s state budget.
