As the South Asian community around the world has evolved into a community of global citizens and the performing art forms from the Indian sub-continent have found worldwide practitioners, the needs of second and third generation South Asian residents of Chicago have changed from two decades ago. Beyond India, the performing arts of Persian, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Burma

, and Indonesia are gaining popularity and seek greater representation. Led by Pranita Nayar, Mandala South Asian Performing Arts will be the center of influence and leading authority for South Asian arts through performances (e.g., stage shows), studio classes and community outreach (e.g., schools, festivals) Mandala will work to further the South Asian Arts in Chicago and the US for awareness and expression of the arts among children, adults and art patrons.

Do you have a memory to share?

Maybe it lives in a favorite piece of clothing, a scarf, jewelry, or an accessory tucked away with a special story behind it. Join Mandala Arts for Homeward, a powerful dance performance that brings together high school students, community members, and professional artists to explore identity, culture, and belonging through movement and storytelling.

Through deeply personal and shared stories of migration, family history, and cultural roots, Homeward highlights how our individual journeys shape who we are—and connect us to something bigger. Led by Black American and Asian diaspora artists, this one-of-a-kind performance weaves generations of experiences into a moving, meaningful event.
