What a great turnout this weekend! 🇺🇸

Our VFW Post was proud to be part of this weekend’s community back to school event, connecting with the neighborhood and giving back where it matters most.

Scholarship Chairman Christopher Laurent spent time talking with students about our Patriot’s Pen and Voice of Democracy scholarship programs, alongside Auxiliary Past State President Marvie.

At the recruiting table, Danny Pokrjac welcomed new members and shared what it means to be part of VFW.

Add in live music, face painting, and a bounce house for the kids, and it made for a great day of community, connection, and honoring what we stand for.

VFW Post 5079 & Auxiliary can't wait to welcome our community for our Back-to-School School Supply Giveaway this Sunday, August 16, from 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM at 3200 S. May Street, Chicago, IL 60608!

We'll have:
🎒 Free school supplies for grade school students (while supplies last)
🎨 Face painting with Ms. Vee from 1:00–3:00 PM
🏰 A FREE jumpy house for the kids!

Whether you love writing or public speaking, there's an opportunity for you to share your voice, honor our nation's veterans, and compete for thousands of dollars in scholarships.
✍️ Patriot's Pen (Grades 6–8)
Submit a 300–400 word essay
Theme: "What a Veteran Taught Me About America"

🏆 National First Place Prize: $5,000
🎙️ Voice of Democracy (Grades 9–12)
Submit a 3–5 minute audio essay
Theme: "What a Veteran Taught Me About America"
