This is it, college- and college-hopeful students! Tomorrow, Friday, May 8, 5:00 pm, is the application deadline for the 2026 Peace and Education Coalition Scholarships. Please check the instructions carefully www.peaceandeducation.org and submit. We worked hard on a wonderful fundraiser for the scholarships last Saturday (see some of the "Taste of Back of the Yards" food served in the pic). We look forward to "meeting" you through your application.

Thank you to the Plant/Bubbly Dynamics for offering us the use of the Winter Garden Room for our scholarship event. Thank you to the Committee for all their hard work organizing and coordinating , to those who offered special services in media and the arts, to those who donated and served food and raffle baskets, those who helped set up and clean up, those who spread the word through social media and friends, those who attended and helped us recognize Mayra Macias, past recipient, and Increase the Peace and their advocacy work! Our students will benefit greatly from all your goodness and generosity!

We call the scholarship fundraiser "Taste of Back of the Yards" for a reason! Each year some 8-12 local vendors donate 'taste portions' of some of their favorite offerings. This year we are expecting a host of Mexican delights, sandwich bites, beverages, desserts, even a pulled pork topped mini-pancake, and more! Visit the website for tickets, www.peaceandeducation.org

Our annual festivities include a basket raffle providing 35-40 possibilities. The basket raffle, food arrangements, welcome, setup, decoratons, program, and more are the work of the Scholarship Committee. We are grateful for the time and talents of the 2026 commitee: Jorge, Monse, Yareli, Fabian, Andrea, Martha, Sarai, Angie, Irene, Ramiro, Daniel, Rolando, Maria, and Bruce. As a Coalition we know how vital it is to work together as teams, networks, and organizations. At the May 2 Scholarship Fundraiser we will recognize the youth-led Increase The Peace for their tireless advocacy for the rights of our community immigrants, especially in this perilous past year.
