Congratulations to Claudia Regalado, our Director of Relationship Management, on her appointment to the Midwest Urban Strategies (MUS) Board of Directors.

For more than two decades, Claudia has been fiercely dedicated to workforce development and has a passion for building partnerships across government, business, and community organizations. Her connection to MUS goes back to 2021, when she joined its inaugural Workforce Innovator Fellowship cohort.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re recognizing Marlene Vick, who leads diversity and inclusion initiatives at the Illinois Tollway. She expands contracting and workforce opportunities for small, diverse businesses.

She helped create the Tollway’s Technical Assistance Program, which has supported more than 300 small businesses in securing over $30 million in Tollway contracts.

Vick also builds partnerships with organizations like the Hispanic American Construction Industry Association to open doors for diverse contractors, and leads workforce programs connecting underrepresented individuals to careers in highway construction.

We’re grateful to the Tollway for funding our ConstructionWorks program, which shares that commitment. Vick’s work continues to strengthen economic mobility across the region.

As we continue celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, we're recognizing Marta Cerda, President and CEO of ASI and NE Healthcare Services, an employer-partner and one of Chicago's largest Latino-led nonprofit organizations.

Since 2013, Marta has grown ASI while deepening its work in health equity, workforce development, education, and family services. Her leadership continues to expand health care access and opportunity for families across Illinois.

Mariah F. was facing long term unemployment when she heard about Food He.ro, a member of our network, and enrolled in the program. Immediately, Mariah received both professional and personal support. As she put it: "I had access to onsite counseling, help with transportation through gas cards, and constant emotional support from the staff and chefs."

Mariah said being in culinary arts school "turned [her] life around and helped [her] get back on [her] feet."

Through the program, she connected with industry employers at a job fair, and she already has two job interviews lined up. She says she's prepared for what comes next.

Brava, Mariah, for your persistence and determination. This is what's possible when hard work and resources come together.

Last week, we celebrated two of the members of our network at the Citywide Career Fair we hosted with the City of Chicago – Government, the city clerk, and Chicago Transit Authority (CTA).

We had the honor of recognizing members of our network for awards as we closed out Workforce Development Month. They included Metropolitan Family Services for the Community Partner Champion Award and Mignonne B. of Workforce Solutions for the Workforce Leadership Champion Award. And we were thrilled to see our friends from the Illinois Tollway, who were also honored, and who power our ConstructionWorks program.

These awards recognize outstanding leadership, collaboration and commitment to advancing workforce development.
