We’d like to introduce our new mentor, Sarah! To connect with any of our mentors, fill out the mentee intake form on our website here aplaceforusdisability.org/connect-with-a-mentor/

About Sarah:

School: The Ohio State University, class of 2027

Major: Public Affairs with a Nonprofit Management Specialization and minors in Disability Studies and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies

Hobbies: Crocheting, sewing, puzzles, volunteering, thrifting, being with friends, or going to events at the library

What is your experience in the disability community?
“I have multiple disabilities myself and use my struggles [to] empathize with others who also face similar barriers. I have spent a lot of time in college taking classes that focus on the disability experience to understand how intersections of various identities can both oppress yet empower us to grow into who we want to be, despite society's stigmas.”

What animal embodies your personality?
“A capybara. They're just so silly and friendly, and I share similar traits.”

Why did you choose to pursue higher education?
“I think educating yourself is one of the most important things you can do, if you have access to it. Being in the higher education space has given me the opportunity to grow my knowledge, learn how to think flexibly, and build meaningful connections with other likeminded people. I wanted to be involved in higher education because the very structure of it gave me the opportunity to learn more about what I am passionate about in a very focused way -- it has provided direction to the career path that I want to pursue, which I do not think I would have found any other way! I know that the knowledge that I gain during my time in college will be impactful in creating social change in the future, and I am so excited to leave a mark on the world.“

Current favorite show: Alf

What disability issue are you most passionate about?
“Invisible disabilities, like chronic disease/illness and mental health conditions. I think that all disabilities deserve representation, however, and till the end I will advocate for everyone to have Access.”
