Juneteenth in Caroline County will be held at the Historic Mt. Pleasant Acres Farms, on 6/19 from 11am-5pm, the “farm” is 111 acres of crops, vegetables, forests and wetlands. Owners, Mrs. Paulette Greene and Mrs. Donna Dear, known as the “Aunties”, steward the farm. Historical research directly links this site to Harriet Tubman’s freedom journey along the Underground Railroad.
One of the most breathtaking features here is the Witness Tree, a tulip poplar, which is believed to be a landmark for enslaved individuals.

It’s an honor and privilege we don’t take for granted to be invited to attend graduations, awards ceremonies, transition days,etc. It’s also bitter sweet to see our Seniors move on as some have been with us since the start of Minary’s. This is not the end, as they know the team is only a phone call away.

What an incredible Juneteenth celebration, hosted by the Kennard African American Cultural Heritage Center, on Saturday. It was a beautiful day filled with history, culture and fellowship.

Memorial Day began as “Decoration Day” after the Civil War, when Americans honored fallen soldiers by decorating their graves with flowers. One of the earliest known observances was organized in 1865 by formerly enslaved Black Americans in Charleston, who gathered to properly bury Union soldiers and hold a remembrance ceremony honoring their sacrifice and the fight for freedom.
The tradition later became a national holiday known as Memorial Day, a time to remember and honor all U.S. service members who gave their lives for our country.
