The Society for American Archaeology - State Archaeology Celebration Poster Contest, a nation-wide effort to promote archaeology to the public, coincides with Maryland Archeology Month. Last year, Maryland came in 2nd place in the poster contest for the second year in a row!

This past Sunday, Eastern Shore chapter members were treated to an incredible lecture by archaeologist Dan Griffith, of the The Archaeological Society of Delaware (ASD) on 17th century American Indian Towns. We had a great turnout and look forward to seeing all our members at future events!

Did you know that you could volunteer in the Maryland Historical Trust Archaeology Lab in Crownsville? Our volunteers clean, catalogue, and analyze artifacts that we recover from our fieldwork - no experience required! We are now open on Tuesdays AND Thursdays, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM (excluding holidays and fieldwork days).

If you are interested in volunteering, you can sign up to receive weekly emails that will let you know which days the lab is open and what projects are being undertaken: tiny.cc/MHT-vol.

This is going to be a great event! We hope you can make it!

Last weekend our chapter was treated to a fascinating talk by Pat Dunn, an archaeologist in training and member of Eastern Shore ASM.

In "Exploring Chalcolithic (Copper Age) Mysteries," she explained what she saw and how she made sense of all she learned about life and death from the Neolithic to the Bronze Age during an excavation in Cyprus in April 2025. When the pieces come together, she learned, it is nothing short of amazing!

Thank you, Pat, for sharing your knowledge and experience with us!
