"Almost half of respondents in AARP’s survey feel home modifications will be necessary to support independent aging. That makes sense, because a significant obstacle to aging in place is safety and accessibility. Some 72% envision need for grab bars, reflecting the fact falls are the leading cause of injury and injury-related deaths for folks 65 and older, according to the CDC. Another 71% of respondents say entryway improvements will be needed and 39% report kitchen upgrades are essential. Adding concern is that affordability issues may make some enhancements cost prohibitive."

An overwhelming majority of older Americans want to age in place, but their homes don't currently possess the requisite features they will need as they grow older.
