Virginia Organizing Wythe County Chapter

On Monday, our chapter held a press conference to share continued concerns about potential data centers in Wythe County. Chapter members, including chapter leader Georgia Randall, talked with WDBZ7 about the impact on farming communities and lack of transparency from the local government.

In response to previous concerns shared, the Wythe County Board of Supervisors and planning commission held an informational meeting about a proposed land use ordinance drawn up to prevent solar farm and data center development in Wythe County.

Over the weekend, our Virginia Organizing Wythe County Chapter also held a listening session 🗣 (co-facilitated with Preserve Wythe County) to hear from community members about opposition to proposed data centers in the area and their dissatisfaction by the lack of transparency from the local government.

Guest speakers discussed the impact of data centers on the community, how to organize the community to oppose the centers, and information about land use and NDAs. Attendees also learned about the impact of data centers on utility costs and had the opportunity to share their concerns. As a follow-up to the listening session, the chapter also made calls to local officials on Monday about their concerns. ✊👏🙌
