WHERE DO THEY GO?!

ADOPTION!!! These horses are all in their loving, forever homes.

DID YOU KNOW?

CCR adopts out 70-100 horses every. single. month.

Although our part of being a main character in their stories is over… we will always be in the background, cheering and supporting, there to catch any if they need a safety net.

Did you know?

Colby’s Crew will cover most major medical procedures for any graduate if the owner is unable to afford them. We have sent horses for rehabilitation, paid for colic surgery, paid for eye removal, and assisted in numerous ways to our adopters. Our adopters know that they will NEVER walk alone so long as they have a CCR graduate.

Colby’s Crew has an iron clad adoption contract that requires updates and protects these horses for the rest of their lives.

Colby’s Crew will take a horse back for ANY reason. We will even come get them, no questions asked.

Colby’s Crew offers a $1000 euthanasia grant to ANY alumni so you NEVER have to choose between auction and a peaceful ending.

Here at CCR we are a full circle horse rescue protecting every horse that comes into our crew.

AND IN THIS MOMENT…

He was just another baby c**t finding freedom.

If you don’t know Tuckers story and all he’s overcome— this video isn’t particularly unique or special.

But if you do…

Tucker is a twin who survived a traumatic birth, the loss of a Mama who loved him but couldn’t produce the milk to raise two, and the gain of an adoptive Mom in Hanna.

He’s seen a lot in the six or so weeks he’s been alive.

But one thing he hasn’t seen is the outside…

Pneumonia struck for Tucker shortly after birth (his birth mother was inside a slaughter holding facility pregnant with Tucker and his brother Grayson) so it’s likely she exposed him to some contagious bacteria or viral illness at birth.

And so we had to protect his young underdeveloped and over taxed lungs and keep him on stall rest…

He’s been so very bored.

But today?

Today he finally got to fly free at last.

His brother Grayson is just a few days behind, and will soon join him here.

But for now, fly Tucker. Fly solo. Fly free.

If people ask us why we do what we do — here’s why.

Go Tucker go.

AN UPDATE ON THE MARE WHO HAD BEEN HIT BY A 2X4…

We’ve named her Autumn.

She has a lot of bone chips from the blunt force trauma she took around her eye.

Unfortunately because of where she came from— the slaughter holding facility and the numerous contagious pathogens inside— and the fact that she’d show symptoms of fever, nasal discharge and cough - she could not safely go to a major hospital and have surgery due to the biosecurity risks of other horses.

Which we totally respect.

That meant that Dr. Davis must perform the surgery herself, manage the recovery and do it in the field IF we wanted to save Autumn’s eye.

Dr. Davis is willing to try and we are also willing to take the risk…

So we’ve scheduled the removal of the bone chips.

Stay tuned for Part II and keep our girl in your prayers.

A WEEK AGO I ASKED ALL OF YOU TO HAVE FAITH IN CCR AND ITS VETS FOR THIS FILLY

The first photo is how we found her in the slaughter holding facility.

The second photo is post debridement and surgery done by Dr. Davis in the field.

This filly is not even two years old yet.

She was sent to slaughter with a debilitating injury that most people saw as too expensive and expansive to treat.

She sold to slaughter for $25.

Essentially worthless. It was likely more expensive to consign her.

A life without value.

We didn’t see her that way.

She was a life.

Full stop.

And every single life has value.

She was a young life who hadn’t even really gotten started living yet. Too young for that much pain.

I’m going to fully tell her story (and the mare who was beaten by a 2x4) over the new few days and a Canyon update…

But when I saw this update photo— I had to post in gratitude to our donors.

Thank you for having faith.

Thank you for having donated.

We have thousands of donors (44,000 to be exact) who donate and trust us to do the right thing for the horse each and every month.

They trust our vets.

They trust our team.

And here is the irrefutable proof that we take that trust serious.

She’s got a full life ahead now.

Because someone hit donate now and sent $5.

It might not have seemed like a lot of money at the time…

But because of YOU, she lived.

Because of you, she will continue to live.

Because of you, someone’s going to have their partner of a lifetime.

She can’t say thank you…

But we can.

Thank you.

Keep believing.

We are CCR.

You are CCR.

Not a ripple— a movement for change.

Together we will build a better tomorrow for horses today.

TUCKER UPDATE

Although not as popular online as his twin brother, Tucker hit the ground running and hasn’t looked back since.

He gives Hanna hell every single day. She’s one Angel of a nurse mama because if he isn’t badgering, climbing or otherwise fully being an absolute pest to her — he’s out for the count asleep.

He has two modes: full blast, or sleeping.

He and Grayson will soon be out in the fields tearing things up together. Bet on that.

He’s been out in a round pen a few times with Hanna but with all the cold rain coming he’s inside again since he’s more vulnerable to pneumonia than a “normal” non twin foal.

He’s not pleased about prison. See picture two.

Sorry buddy, sometimes short term pain gets long term gain! I definitely struggle with that concept myself.

We debated about partnering him up with Little John, but since the plan is to put him with Grayson permanently— the less germs we introduce to the dynamic duo, the better.

A lot of people are inquiring about adoption for both and honestly we are going to see them to their 2-3 year old year and then make a decision.

Letting them grow up in a healthy herd of c**ts their age seems the best thing for both given their rather difficult start. We worry that adopting them out as foals, or even yearlings, could cause a backslide health wise. Plus we’re not quite ready to separate the brothers and so far there have been only adoption inquires for Grayson solo, and to be honest— it’s not something we’d discuss for many months yet anyway.

They just aren’t ready yet. Still with their mamas and needing a natural weaning.

So for now, they’ll remain in sanctuary and will hit our website soon to be sponsored.

I think adoption will be the answer eventually… just not right now. It’s important that we give them their best possible start.

Don’t you agree?

GOOD MORNING

Grayson wants everyone to know he’s feeling much better.

Actually he is a straight up trouble making menace if I’m being honest. See that look in his eye- he’s cooking up a plan to come and frisk our photographer. He loves to steal things like brushes, phones and anything not nailed down. A real impish monkey!

If he had thumbs, we’d be in trouble!! No doubt about it.

We have a lot of forecasted rain (two inches!!) to come but after that we may try him and Delilah outside in a small medical paddock.

If that goes well, we will reunite him with Tucker and Hanna in a small field. We’re excited for that day but waiting for perfect weather and footing.

We’ve come so far, a week or so is no time at all!

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION

Maracas 🪇
Maracas is a 15.2 hand tall 18 year old Standardbred mare registered under the name “Down East Sanibel”. Maracas has been in the rescue for a good bit as she arrived pregnant, but has now weaned her baby and is ready to get into riding shape and find herself a trail partner! This lady is a curious type, always likes to watch the goings on of the day and is very personable. For our gaited enthusiasts she is gaited and super smooth! Generally mellow on the ground she does get a little amped when the tack goes on and is ready to go at the mounting block! A forward ride though very steady and unbothered by her surroundings, she loves an adventure and is happy to be out and about. Up to date on vet and farrier. Adoption fee 900 reduced to $750 until 10/15!

Keystone 🗿
Meet Keystone! Keystone is a 2024 15 hand REGISTERED quarter horse gelding! Yes, we have his papers. We do not release them but will give you a copy and will also assist in whatever possible for breed showing while still tracking and following him for life .This handsome man can be shy to catch but easily warms up to touch. Keystone is a fairly nonchalant guy but needs someone who will reinforce his ground manners. He does lead though is fairly quick to leave a given situation. He can pick up his feet but does so with some protest. Keystone has a lot of potential and athleticism, he just needs someone to bring him along! Up to date on vet and farrier. Adoption fee 2000 reduced to $1500 until 10/15.

Becca 🤧
Becca is a 36” 20+ year old mini mare. Becca is a spicy old lady with a bit of sass in her step. She knows more than she lets on too but food offerings and some patience are required. If you are looking for a secretly sweet, outwardly sassy little lady to brighten your day then Becca may be your girl! Up to date on vet and farrier. Adoption fee 150 reduced to $25 until 10/15.

Clara 💕
Meet Clara! Clara is a 7 year old 15 hand Morgan cross mare. This sweet girl recently had her right eye removed, and is relearning how to navigate the world. And we have to say, she’s doing great, taking everything in stride! Clara is lovely on the ground, and very respectful. She can be a little anxious under saddle, and appreciates a confident rider to guide her along. She has a nice walk and trot and we are exploring the canter. Clara also seems to enjoy being out and about on the farm, without or without friends! Though is more confident with a fellow equine by her side. Up to date on vet and farrier. Adoption fee 975 reduced to $500 until 10/15.

Hadley 🍷
Hadley is a 2-3 year old 15 hand Draft/Quarter Horse cross mare. This girl has had a hard start to life, coming to us with a baby by her side who was just recently naturally weaned (thus the visible bag). Hadley wants to be friendly though can be a bit jumpy at times, she does best with slow, consistent handling. She’s an attractive, sporty mare and is fairly easy to catch, leads, and ties though her main goal right now it getting more comfortable having her feet handled. She’d be best as a trainers project and will make a wonderful horse in time! She is NOT broke to ride. Up to date on vet and farrier. Adoption fee 1500 reduced to $600 until 10/15.

Pongo 🪀
Pongo is a 16 hand 1-2 year old Percheron/Frieisan gelding. This large guy is a PROJECT for a committed draft enthusiast who’s willing to spend the time working with him. He will be BIG! Pongo can be very flighty at times, he knows his size and doesn’t always respect personal space. He leads and ties, but does not yet understand how to pickup his feet. A sweet but nervous guy who needs time to come out of his shell ♥️ Up to date on vet and farrier. Adoption fee 2000 reduced to $1000 until 10/15.

Lola 😈
Lola is a 14.2 hand Clydesdale x weanling filly. This BIG gorgeous girl has started baby boot camp and is learning how to lead and tie. Lola is the sweetest girl and is absolutely adored around the barn. She is going to make some a wonderful prospect. Lola has a ton of growing left to-do and she is going to be huge and need a draft experienced handler. Adoption fee 2500 reduced to $1500 until 10/15

Starburst 🍬
Starburst is a 6 month old 12.3 hand Standardbred cross filly. One of our favorites due to her curious, layed back personality. Having grown up in our sanctuary with other mares and foals, she’s familiar with us though currently going through her rebellious toddler stage as she re-remembers how to lead and be a domesticated citizen. This long-legged gaited lady will mature on the larger side and make someone a fabulous horse! Up to date on vet and farrier. Adoption fee 350

Mate 🏴‍☠️
Meet Mate! Mate is coming two year old 11 hand hackney cross gelding! Mate is your typically hackney. He is very cautious of his surroundings and carries his head high. Mate can be difficult to catch but is getting better with daily handling. Under his high strung anxious exterior, he is a sweet boy looking for someone to help build his confidence. Up to date on vet and farrier. Adoption fee 150 reduced to $25 until 10/15!

Corkey 🍷
Meet Corkey! Corkey is a yearling 12.1 hand quarter horse cross gelding! One of the ferals we rescued, Corkey can be quirky when it comes to being caught, but is overall curious about human interaction. Once you have him, he almost instantly melts into scratches. Corkey has surprisingly good ground banners for how feral he seemed upon arrival; young man just needed time to settle in to his new surroundings. Corkey picks up all 4 feet very well for youngin’ and would make anyone a nice, athletic project to take in any direction. UTD on vet and farrier. Adoption fee 350 reduced to $150 until 10/15 please note, the ferals don’t usually grow past pony size.

Rachel Ann 💕
Rachel Ann is a 14.1h warmblood yearling mare. This sweet girl is just needing a confident hand to show her the world is ok. Shy to catch and a bit reactive on the ground, she has a kind eye and responds to patience and time. She would make an exciting and athletic prospect for someone who wants to bring a baby along! UTD on vet and farrier. $800 adoption fee reduced to $150 until 10/15!

JK 🃏
Meet JK! JK is a 12 year old, 34 inch, mini mare. JK came to us with a new baby on hip, now that they’ve been weaned she’s ready for her next adventure! JK is fairly easy to catch, though would prefer to just hang out with her pals. She isn’t a huge fan of touch and can be mouthy, therefore she would do best as a companion animal in a home without children. She needs someone to believe in her because she can be a bit of a menace. Up to date on vet and farrier. Adoption fee 150 reduced to $25 until 10/15!
